We'll Take All the Booster Gold We Can Get

First things first: my apologies that the Boosterrific Forum was down all weekend. It wasn't supposed to be. I took it down for testing late last week, and then my internet went out most of the weekend.

This disruption in service probably didn't bother many of you, but I'm sure that someone tried to drop by and let us know that DC has announced that Booster Gold will be making a feature appearance in May's Smallville Season 11 #13.

SMALLVILLE SEASON 13
Written by BRYAN Q. MILLER
Art by DANIEL HDR
Cover by PETE WOODS
On sale May 8 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T • DIGITAL FIRST
• An all-new episode begins with "Argo" part 1 of 3! Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes try to stop war between Earth and a shocking enemy! Plus, a glitch in Booster Gold's Legion flight ring propels the "Gold Standard," his trusty robot Skeets and The Man of Steel into the 31st century.

That was some good news I'm sure that we all would have liked to seen last week, yes? (This solicitation was originally posted on IGN.com. As per DC's recent trend of teasing solicitations across the web before releasing them on their own website, you can expect to find this solicitation on DCcomics.com/blog later this week.)

Smallville is one of DC's "digital first" titles, meaning that we probably don't have to wait until May 8 to see Booster return to action in the Smallville (television) Universe. The books are released in three parts over the course of three weeks at 99¢ each before being collected in a print version. Therefore we can expect to start reading this story online on April 12, if we're impatient for more Booster Gold. I know I am.

Booster Gold the Television Show Update

Wednesday, IGN.com published an interview between Jesse Schedeen and Andrew Kreisberg. Most of the Q&A focuses on The CW's Arrow, which Kreisberg executive produces, but Schedeen managed to save the most important question for last:

IGN Comics: Before we end off, I wanted to ask about another show you've been working on. Back during SDCC you revealed that you were preparing to submit your first script for the Booster Gold series you're developing for SyFy. Is there any update on that show right now?

Kreisberg: [laughs] I got a little waylaid by Arrow. Booster Gold is going in in the next couple weeks before Christmas. We'll see what happens from there. It's such a different project even though they're both DC Comics properties. Booster is much more candy and popcorn, being about time travel and changing the future and being a superhero who can fly. But they're both super-fun projects. As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I am beyond blessed to be working on these projects with all these amazing characters.

Booster Gold fans certainly have something to look foward to this Christmas season! Thanks to Russ Burlingame at ComicBook.com and MetalWoman in the Boosterrific Forum for bringing this bit of good news to our attention.

Superman Never Made Any Money

It was announced back in April that Cartoon Network's Robot Chicken would have a "DC Comics Special" in their upcoming sixth season. Yesterday, we finally got a quick look at the episode by way of IGN.com. Surprise, surprise, it includes an appearance of Booster Gold (at about 1:34).

So mark your calendars! Booster Gold may not have any comic appearances scheduled through November, but he'll be on your TV this September 9th. (Thanks to Russ Burlingame at ComicBook.com for calling this to my attention.)

UPDATE 09/07/12: According to Vaneta Rogers' Newsarama.com interview with Robot Chicken writer Kevin Shinick, Booster Gold's speaking part has been cut from the episode. You may or may not still see Booster in the episode, but he won't be opening his big mouth. Thanks to MetalWoman for pointing out this disappointing news.

What We Learned This Weekend

Three things overheard this weekend at Comic-Con International 2012:

1. Screenwriter Andrew Kreiseberg on the progress of the Booster Gold television show being developed by SyFy (as interviewed by IGN.com):

"[I'm] handing in the script next month. It was actually pretty cool because I got to meet Dan Jurgens who created the comic book last night, and I spent about a half an hour convincing him that I wasn't just some gun for hire, that I was actually a huge fan of Booster as a kid. I wrote a couple of episodes of the Justice League animated series and when they asked me who I wanted to write, I said 'Booster'. So I've been a life-long Booster fan."

2. DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns discussing the Justice League International Annual at the "DC Comics: Justice League and Green Lantern" panel (according to Newsarma.com):

"It's really a Booster Gold story."

3. DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio elaborating on what to expect in the Justice League International Annual at the "DC Comics: Meet the Publishers" panel (according to Comicbook.com):

We wrapped up some stories, especially Booster Gold's, where we see some strange things happen to Booster, Blue Beetle, and the August General."

Thanks to MetalWoman and Russ Burlingame for the tips.

New Releases: TFoF:tNM #9

The cliffhanger story from Justice League International #9 is continued in today's The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men #9. Bombers are on the rampage in Paris! Firestorm has transmuted the Eiffel Tower into rose petals! New Firestorms appear on every page! With so much going on, how does DC tease the issue in their solicitation text?

Don't miss this crossover with JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #9!

Oooh, Doesn't that sound exciting! At least it doesn't give much away since the JLI is on the cover and all. Certainly, it sounds better than "we care so little about Firestorm that we're going to promote it with a tie-in to a book we've already canceled."

For those of you interested in the events of this issue despite the fact that it will have Firestorm in it, you can read a 4-page preview at IGN.com. You gotta admit, Ethan Van Sciver's Yildiray Cinar's Booster Gold looks pretty darn good. (My fault. Van Sciver is only drawing the cover. Cinar handles interior art.)

Buy this book and... well, just buy it. There's no consoling Skeets right now.
