ISSUE SUMMARY

Cover Description: Batman swings on a line from a rooftop following Booster Gold who is reaching for a falling Batwing.

Brief Synopsis: Former members of the JLI struggle to bring the culprits of the recent United Nations bombing to justice.

Issue Summary: A brief flashback shows Batwing visiting Vixen in the hospital three minutes ago. In the present, Batwing and Booster Gold fight a losing battle against Lightweaver. Lightweaver disables Batwing to cover his escape, forcing Booster to choose between pursuing Lightweaver or saving Batwing.

Across town, Roland Norcutt uses his meta powers to escape police custody. Norcutt changes to his alter ego, Breakdown, and join his fellow terrorists Lightweaver and Intersek.

Batman arrives to formally introduce Booster Gold to Batwing. Once Batman reveals that Norcutt, whom he accuses of participating in the recent bombing, Booster Gold declares that the team must hunt down the escaped convict.

One hour later inside the hospital, Guy Gardner consoles Ice. Godiva interrupts him with the news that they are being kicked out of the hospital. August General in Iron stands up to Chairwoman Bao, but agrees that the heroes should leave the hospital to ensure that their friends are not attacked again. On the way out the door, the trio are attacked by the rampaging OMAC. Reveal Potential Spoilers

Page 2, panel 1
After a brief flashback to explain where Batwing came from, this issue picks up where the previous issue left off with Batwing leaping to rescue Booster Gold from Lightweaver.

Page 4, panel 1
Batwing admits to knowing Booster "from TV." Did he see Booster during the coverage of the JLI's first adventure or from his many commercial endorsements? What could Booster be selling in Batwing's native Democratic Republic of Congo?

Page 5, panel 1
Note that Batwing is the only character in this issue who is given thought balloons (in the form of narrative boxes). This internal monologue is presented to the reader so that it is clear that Batwing has taken a quick dislike to Booster Gold. Aaccording to the issue cover, Batwing will be joining the currently disbanded JLI, so this snap-judgement animosity will be presumably relevant to future issues. (If Batwing doesn't like Booster Gold, I think I'll decide to not like Batwing.)

POWER DOWN: After using his force field and a dual Booster Shot, Booster acts exhausted and claims that he has "to let the suit regenerate." Does using his current (damaged) costume cause physical fatigue? How do the batteries in his Mark XIII costume recharge while he rests?

POWER UP: Thankfully, even if his force field and Booster Shots are offline and his costume torn, Booster still has enhanced strength to survive a fall of multiple stories. (I bet that second-stringer Batwing couldn't do that!)

Booster Gold and terrible-judge-of-character Batwing are joined by Batman, who somehow has the ability to transmit information about escaped bomber Roland Norcutt directly into Booster's holographic displays.

Page 12, panel 1
The reporter spreading the word about the exploits of Booster Gold outside of New York's Eastside Hospital is broadcasting for television station KWZ. As a general rule, broadcast stations on the Eastern seaboard of the United States have call signs beginning with the letter "W". The station farthest to the East with a call sign beginning with the letter "K" is KYZ in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
