Breaking news! Booster Gold screenwriter/showrunner David Jenkins posted Friday to his account on Threads.com:

"My Booster Gold won't be moving forward.
Can't improve on Mahershala's lovely statement so I'll just apply it here as well."

Jenkins linked to a Mahershala Ali interview with GQ.com in which Ali appears to have specifically called out Marvel Studios for canceling his Blade movie reboot:

"For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would've done it. So I have to move on … Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. So we’re not doing the movie … But I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question."

We can all read between the lines here: It was the studio's decision to reverse course on the project. I'm in no position to know, but I wouldn't be surprised if either or both of the dismal performance of Supergirl and the contentious (and debt-laden) Warner Bros/Paramount merger were the roadblocks here. Jenkins being a vocal opponent of the merger probably didn't endear him to studio executives, either. Movie-making is a for-profit business, and sometimes the timing is just wrong.

Of course, it's also important to realize that Jenkins is only lamenting the end of "his" Booster Gold. Until Warner Bros firmly closes it, the door remains open that James Gunn and company could yet take our hero in a different direction.

Someone or other has been trying to get Booster Gold into your television set or movie theater since 1991, and this is the closest we've gotten yet. I'd say even considering this setback, we're still making progress.

Did you miss out on Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen #3 two weeks ago? You could buy a copy on eBay for $40, or, if you're lucky, you can find a rushed second printing today at your LCS for $3.99.

Sigh. (Seriously, I've been collecting comics for four decades, and I still marvel at how the speculator market works.)

While we're on the topic of speculating, I guess now's as good a time as any to mention that pop culture site wegotthiscovered.com reports... well, I'll let them say it.

Warner Brothers is looking to bring [Ryan] Reynolds back to DC but not as the Green Lantern. Instead, they want him to play Booster Gold.

Ok, sure. I'd buy a ticket to see Reynolds bring Zack Stentz's 2017 still-unproduced Booster Gold: The Movie script to life. But then, I'd buy a ticket to see Rob Schneider play Booster Gold. I'm not a hard sell in the Booster Gold department.

And now that I'm on the topics of actors, I should probably take the opportunity to mention what card -carrying Booster Brigade member Shawn Baston spotted in a youtube video tour of comedian Pete Davidson's apartment given to Netflix. Feast your eyes on this:

No, not the picture of Davidson's grandfather with Judd Apatow. Over there in the corner.

Yep, that's a copy of 1985's first printing of Booster Gold volume 1 #1. You've got good taste, Pete. That issue sells for upwards of $30 on eBay!

UPDATE 2020-03-18: wegotthiscovered.com now reports that Reynolds has turned down the role. That means I've mentioned them twice in this post, which shows you how much mileage there is in speculating about such things.

UPDATE 2020-03-19: wegotthiscovered.com updates their own reporting to say that since Ryan Reynolds passed, WB now wants Chris Pratt. So, they're determined to poach all the Marvel actors then. I guess next week they'll be after Tom Holland.

I'm never one to spread rumors, but ever since news broke that Greg Berlanti and Zack Stentz were working on a Booster Gold movie, rumor is about all we've had to talk about.

The skinny from David James of WeGotThisCovered.com is that

"[S]ome upcoming DCEU movies may skip theaters and premiere on HBO Max. The big name we're hearing is that Booster Gold could be the first feature film release for the service."

In case you hadn't already heard, Warner Bros will jump into the greedy proprietary streaming service game in May 2020. The service will stream content from across Warner Bros properties, both pre-existing and newly created. Berlanti has already announced two DC-themed shows.

As a result of that announcement, it seems a safe bet that the days are numbered for Warner Bros' existing DC Universe streaming service. We already know that at least some of its content (specifically Doom Patrol) will be moving to HBO Max. Therefore, if a Booster Gold movie is ever going to happen, it seems logical to assume that will be showing up at HBO Max, too.

Of course, that's all speculation. Like I said: rumors are about all we have to talk about when it comes to Booster Gold: The Movie.

Revenge Of The Fans plans to release a new Fanboy podcast today, and their guest will be screenwriter Zack Stentz. They asked Stentz about the state of his Booster Gold movie script:

I do not know what's going on with it right now, honestly. And I don't know if the DC people know what's going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how [...] most recent movie did. But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it's something that's ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the greenlight to it. The ball is in their court.

We've been following the progress of Stentz's script since he took the job back in 2016. I'm glad to hear that his boss, Arrow and Flash producer Greg Berlanti, is happy with it. Maybe one day Warner Bros will be, too.

Remember the Booster Gold movie script that Zack Stentz wrote for Greg Berlanti back in 2016? Back in August, I wrote "If I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's not dead yet, just moving really, really slowly." It looks like I'm a good guesser.

Earlier this week, Hollywood screenwriter Zack Stentz tweeted about scripts that he has sold but that have not (as of yet) been produced into movies. Among the list was Booster Gold. That triggered this exchange:

Can we trust that source? According to gvnation.com, "Daniel is well known for breaking several DC scoops," so he has that going for him. But in case that's not strong enough evidence itself, let's go straight to the horse's mouth:

There you go. Booster Gold The Movie is still an "active project" at Warner Bros. Personally, I'm willing to be patient if it means they're going to do our hero right.
