Chewing Gum and Bailing Wire

Ok, so over the weekend, while trying to fix one malingering back-end code problem here at Boosterrific.com (stupid, stupid spam filters), I discovered that another of my recent-ish changes had resulted in a bunch of bad internal links. Specifically, following links on a character's list of shared Booster Gold appearances could take you to the bio of an entirely different character. Oops.

Now, I think I've got both problems are fixed. Going forward, if you do click an internal link here on Boosterrific.com and it doesn't take you where you think it was supposed to take you — for example, if a link promising Harley Quinn takes you instead to *ahem* the Sea Devils — please do me a favor and drop me a note, either in a blog post comment or via the Boosterrific Contact form so that I can fix it. Thank you for your help in making Boosterrific better.

And just so you don't leave this post thinking that Boosterrific.com has nothing to offer today other than malfunctioning code and hijacked links, here's a seasonally appropriate piece of delightful Blue and Gold fan art by Melonnabar (from Tumblr via Reddit):

Blue and Gold On the Beach by Melonnabar

It tickles me that they wear bathing suits that give away their secret identities. Very subtle, boys.

Blogus Interruptus

My power is out. We're on hour 5 and counting. Again. (It went out for a long stretch back in late March, but you probably didn't know that since I made an effort not to let it interrupt April Fool's Day.)

Anyway, this isn't supposed to be a tirade about the disappointing state of my local powergrid. The point here is that I didn't have anything pre-loaded in the blogging pipeline, so this is all the blog content you're going to get today.

Enjoy the hiatus. Consider this a good opportunity to get off the Internet. Go smell some roses or something.

Circle of Life

Recent years have been pretty good to us, Booster boosters, but a growing lack of evidence indicates that we may very well be entering another drought of Booster Gold comics.

There have been many long stretches between new in-continuity appearances in Booster's nearly 4 decade career. The longest drought was the 574-day streak between 2015's Bat-Mite #4 and 2017's Booster Gold/The Flintstones Special. (And if you're the sort who considers that Flintstones crossover to be out of continuity, it would be another 239 days until Action Comics #992!) You might notice that gap correlates with DC's "Rebirth" period, during which DC was too busy course correcting from the New 52 debacle to devote much space to characters who don't appear regularly on kid's pajamas and party favors. I don't think it's a coincidence that the current fade-out is occurring simultaneously with another line-wide relaunch (this time correcting for Crisis on Infinite Earths?).

Anyway, the point here isn't to criticize DC's backwards-looking publishing strategy. (I mean, I am looking forward to the Fire & Ice miniseries, although that won't come out until September.) The point is to try and figure out how Boosterrific.com can weather the storm — or, more accurately, the lack of one.

What shall I post about in a Booster Gold news vacuum? New news mostly writes itself, but trying to generate content from whole cloth takes time and creativity I don't always have. I've been thinking about rerunning some old content on the theory that it might reach a new audience. (Does anyone ever read old blog posts?) I don't really want to cut back on the number of days I post, but is that the better solution if it keeps the quality of my posts higher? If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.

In the meantime, let's all hope that I'm misreading the signs, and we'll be getting plenty of new Booster Gold comics sooner rather than later.

More Than Just a Pretty Blog

Three times a week, I post something here about Booster Gold — a comic panel, a pop culture reference, fan art — whatever I can find to fill the space. But Boosterrific.com is much more than this blog. In fact, the blog is actually an afterthought, a net cast to catch more eyeballs for what this site is really all about: cataloging Booster Gold's comic book adventures.

If you look beyond the front page, you'll find many, many comics. If you like, you can find lists of those comics sorted by chronology or Booster's prominence in the story or every Booster Gold comic ever.

There are also lists of characters who have crossed Booster's path and lists of the comics they've appeared in together. (For example, Blue Beetle).

Do you have a favorite artist? Have they worked on a Booster Gold comic? There's are lists for those too, by role and individual artists. (For example, Kevin Maguire.)

There's a cover gallery, a showcase of house ads, a timeline of key events, a map of adventure locations. And, to coin a phrase, that's just scratching the surface!

In other words, Boosterrific.com is an amusement park for fans of the original Corporate Crusader. It's open 24/7, and it's free! What more could you want?

My Favorite Pages: Booster Gold 8

My Favorite Pages

As a general rule for this series, I'm going to try to steer away from full-page panels. But sometimes they're just too good to ignore.

Like this page from Booster Gold volume 1, number 8, depicting the very first flight of Booster Gold in costume:

This selection will come as no surprise to longtime Boosterrific.com boosters, as it was the panel selected to be basis of the imagemap for this site's original homepage in June 2007:

What a long, strange trip it's been, eh, Booster?
