Only His Hairdresser Knows for Sure

Booster Gold skipped a digital issue of Smallville Season 11, but he's back for issue #48, and Skeet's is spilling his secrets!

© DC Comics

Booster Gold is a bottle blond? Heavens, no! Presumably, this is a sly reference to the actor who played Booster on Smallville, Eric Martsolf. Martsolf is not a natural blond. He has brown hair. The real Booster Gold has blond hair!

Also in this comic, Booster retells his origin for Smallville fans. In Smallville continuity, there isn't any mention of Booster's signature force field, and his Booster Shots, er, "wrist blasters," are made from 22nd-century technology.

You can download a copy of the issue from ComiXology.com for just 99¢, or you can wait until the issue is collected in Smallville Season 11 #14 at your Local Comic Shop on June 12.

Safety First

Ok, so everything seems to be working around here. How about we give a poll a shot?

Winner and still champion of your Local Comic Shop's bargain bin, Extreme Justice!

Last week's poll question: ( votes)

In recent months, the NFL has been cracking down on player safety in the light of new evidence about the long-term damage of concussions. If football is no longer a safe sport for our kids to play, maybe Booster Gold should consider white-washing his past to be a better role-model.

Standing Alone atop the Podium

Have you been enjoying the 2012 London Olympics? As you watch this final week of games, don't forget that the Olympics are partially responsible for Booster Gold. As Dan Jurgens details in the Secret Origin of Booster Gold interview here at Boosterrific.com:

DAN JURGENS: Much of Booster was inspired by the '84 Olympics when I saw an athlete described as having an endorsement contract without ever having won a medal. Many of the BG ideas were already in place but that sort of galvanized it.

Looking back, how different would it have been if Jurgens had been keeping his eye only on the winning athletes? I doubt that "Mary Lou Retton Gold" would have had the same lasting effect on the DC Universe.

New Releases: Justice League International #3

According to the solicitation, the Justice League splits up to combat the global menace of the Signalmen in this week's Justice League International #3. The more I read of this story goes, the more familiar it feels.

© DC Comics

In the Silver Age origin of the Justice League (Justice League of America, Volume 1, #1), the team was united after combating similar but unique alien menaces across the globe. That origin was also the template for the origin of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths Justice League. Dan Jurgens is no stranger to DC continuity, and the similarity between these stories cannot be accidental as he develops a new Justice League for the DCnU generation.

Buy this week's contribution to the New DCU to find out if the Justice League International gets turned into trees. Your purchase will make Skeets happy.
