Hattie McDaniel Takes Home the Gold
Gone with the Wind was a huge smash hit in 1939. Adjusting for inflation, it's still the biggest blockbuster of all time — by 200 million dollars! Isn't it ironic that a movie sympathetic to the antebellum South would be the catalyst for the first African-American to win an Academy Award on February 29, 1940?
Back then, the Academy Awards still tended to reward movies that people had actually seen in theaters. The financial success of Gone with the Wind carried over into eight Oscar wins, including Best Supporting Actress for Hattie McDaniel, the movie's delightful "Mammy."
There's a long-standing, unsubstantiated rumor that Mexican actor Emilio "El Indio" Fernandez was the model for the now-familiar Oscar award first introduced in 1929. However, you can't help but notice the similarity between the famous golden statuette and a certain, golden time-traveler ("The Greatest Model You've Never Heard Of").
Given how much attention has been given lately to the Academy's preference for lily-white talent, ask yourself which is more far-fetched: that the Academy Award of Merit was modeled on a white time-traveler or that it was based on a Mexican? You be the judge.

Animating Booster Gold
Batman: Bad Blood is the latest direct-to-video release by DC Animation. Eric Francisco interviewed Batman: Bad Blood director Jay Oliva for Inverse.com, and what he had to say might surprise you.
Francisco: What else can we expect in the future of DC Animation? What other books are you guys are looking to adapt?
Oliva: We do the Justice League continuity then Elseworlds, so there's a lot of things. I'd love to do Gotham by Gaslight. Even in this [Justice League] continuity, I'd love to do a Batwoman/Wonder Woman movie, based on that story. I thought it was a fantastic pair-up, you know? Or I'd love to go back and do a Flashpoint sequel or prequel.
Francisco: I'm going to shout out two random DC things and ask if there's going to be a movie: Constatine. Are we going to see an animated Constantine?
Oliva: Hopefully. I love Constantine, he's one of my favorite characters. I'd love to get [series lead Matt] Ryan back to do it, I thought he was great. [But] like I said, there's a whole list I'd love to do. I'd love to do Booster Gold, that would be a fun movie.
Damn right, that would be a fun movie.
So that's the director of a DC Animation movie saying on the record that he'd love to make an animated Booster Gold movie. That certainly doesn't mean it is happening, but so long as it remains a possibility, I'm not giving up hope.

7 Clevver Things
Clevver.com has released their list of suggested "needs" for a Blue Beetle/Booster Gold movie.
I applaud Joslyn Davis' enthusiasm, but I have to say that her experience with the characters doesn't exactly match what I've been reading. Among other things, Skeets isn't spelled with a "z," and I'd never call Gotham University's fallen star quarterback Michael "Booster" Carter a "nobody in the future."
But I don't mean to nitpick. I'll be happy enough if Warner Brothers ever manages to actually make a Blue Beetle and Booster Gold movie.
You can find this video in its native habitat at Clevver.com.

Bob Gale Says No Way
Russ Burlingame interviewed Back to the Future co-screenwriter Bob Gale in anticipation of the movie's upcoming 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray release. Naturally, Burlingame asked Gale if he had any interest in writing for another comedic time-traveler.
Gale said "no."
But he did say he'd read some Booster Gold and called it "a lot of fun."
It's always cool to hear that a successful Hollywood screenwriter and producer is familiar with the character. Find the rest of Gale's discussion of this subject on ComicBook.com.

I'm Getting Too Old for This Stuff
Oooh. Looks like we need a run-off!
Last week's poll question: What style would be the best fit for a Booster Gold movie? (55 votes)
In related news, Shawn dropped by the comments yesterday to say that he spoke to Dan Jurgens last weekend (presumably at the Midwest Comic Book Association 2015 Fall Comicon) and came away with the impression that "it would be a solo Booster movie not including Beetle." (To be clear: I'm quoting Shawn, not Jurgens.)
It seems Hollywood can't have a big budget superhero movie without introducing at least one love interest for their bachelor protagonists. That being the case, it seems likely that Booster will have a girl to romance between whatever crises he's managing solo. Is it enough to win the day, or does Booster have to win the girl too?
