So You Say You Like Lists

Last week, Ariel dropped by the Boosterrific Facebook page to tell us that the website that used to be Comic Book Resources but is now a series of lists has included both volumes of Booster Gold on Gary Smith's "The 15 Best JLI Books Ever."

Despite the title, the list is actually 17 titles long. (Because lists.) But of those 17 titles, 9 feature a strong Booster Gold presence:

17. Extreme Justice

16. Justice League International, Volume 3

8. Justice League 3000/3001

7. Justice League: Generation Lost

6. Formerly Known as the Justice League

4. Booster Gold, Volume 1

3. Booster Gold, Volume 2

2. "I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League" in JLA Classified

1. Justice League International, Volume 1

If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that it's almost impossible to have a Justice League International without Booster Gold. That's a pretty good legacy.

To read what Smith had to say about each title, visit CBR.com. Thanks to Ariel for sorting through the lists and bring this to our attention.

Greatest Story Never Told Is Better Than Most

Cdn dropped by the Boosterrific Forum yesterday to tell us that the Booster Gold episode of Justice League Unlimited cracked the top 5 in CBR.com's list of "15 Unforgettable Justice League Unlimited Episodes."

Well, of course it did. It's "The Greatest Story Never Told."

Says list compiler Colby Lanham:

It's a touching moment for Booster Gold, one that makes the audience feel for the character and his plight while adding layers of depth to the hero who doesn't get many opportunities to do good.

I think it's nice that people remember the episode favorably. But I think it's even nicer that people remember the episode at all.

"The Greatest Story Never Told" first aired in 2004. Twelve years before that, people couldn't watch what had been on television twelve hours earlier if they hadn't had the foresight to record it on a magnetic tape!

It's comforting to know that people will still be discovering both the adventures of Booster Gold long after comics are no longer printed on trees. (Maybe even into the 25th century.)

Long live Booster Gold!

Number One Bromance in Comics

I've been trying to get to posting this for about two weeks, but I didn't figure there was any hurry. Everyone already knows who the biggest bromance in comics is, right? Joe Mortimer sure does.

Although the bromances on this list aren't really in any kind of order, Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) and Booster Gold (Michael Jon Carter) definitely rank No. 1. This is like the original superhero bromance. Meeting as members of the Justice League International, the pair of C-List superheroes become instant best friends. Their misadventures include becoming superhero repo men, opening a casino/resort called Club JLI on the living island of Kooey Kooey Kooey, and stealing Martian Manhunter's cookies.

You can read the whole list of Mortimer's best comic book bromances at TheFreshToast.com.

15 Things You Did Know About Booster Gold

Over the weekend, Edward Cambro informed the world "15 Things You Didn't Know About Booster Gold" over at ScreenRant.com.

I suspect that Booster boosters knew most of those 15 things, with one notable exception: His archenemy is not Peter Platinum.

I'm don't mean to be too hard on Cambro. He does admit that calling PP an archenemy is a bit of a stretch. While I can appreciate his candor and logic, I could never call someone who gets a one-shot appearance anyone's "archenemy."

One of the very first polls I ever ran was a question about who you fans thought was Booster's archenemy. Since Cambro has brought it back up, I'll ask again. We'll take a look at your votes on Friday.

This week's poll question: Who do you consider to be Booster Gold's arch-nemesis? Please visit the Boosterrific Polls page to view results for this week's poll.

It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want To

Uncork the champagne, DC Comics has set a new record!

  1. 338 days between Bat-Mite #4 and now (November 2015 to present)
  2. 336 days between Superman #124 and Chase #4 (Apr. 1997 to Mar. 1998)
  3. 302 days between Martian Manhunter #24 and JLA: Our Worlds At War (Sept. 2000 to July 2001)

There's still no hint that we'll be seeing Booster any time in the next two months. And why should we? Why set a record when you can smash it!
