Dressing Up for Dragon Con 2012
DragonCon 2012, the "world's largest fantasy/sci-fi convention," was held Labor Day weekend in Atlanta. In celebration of all the hard work that went into having so much fun at DragonCon, my fellow DC fan bloggers and I are sharing some DragonCon 2012 photos of our heroes. Of course, the photos of Booster Gold are the best.
The Booster Gal above is Shelley, and the pic comes to us courtesy The Iredeemable Shag! of FirestromFan.com. Shag normally has some great pictures of DragonCon, and this year was no exception. Better still, this year Shag introduced us to The Superhero Costuming Forum, which leads to some other great cosplay photos.
The fellow above has been cosplaying Booster Gold in his spiffy metallic costume for a few years. I guess by now he's earned enough cred to join the prestigious Legion of Super Heroes. Although, if they are going to swear in Matter Eater Lad, it looks like they'll take anybody.(Photo by KalelKara at The Superhero Costuming Forum.)
I'm not going to lie: some of these cosplayers can make the New 52 costumes look pretty good. The same cannot be said for the poor fellow who came dressed as Booster Gold. Sorry, buster, but there's just no way to make that costume shine. (Photo by KalelKara at The Superhero Costuming Forum.)

UPDATE 09/14/12: Ooops! There was at least one other Booster Gold at Dragon Con that I failed to include. Pyynk brings me to task for leaving him out of the fun. My apologies, sir. Your costume, now pictured above, is far too good to be ignored. (Photo by Bryan Humphrey.)
If you like what you've seen here, check out more cosplaying photos at these other fine sites:
Aquaman at Aquaman Shrine
Atom at Power of the Atom
Doctor Fate at Tower of Fate
Doom Patrol at My Greatest Adventure 80
Firestorm at Firestorm Fan
Flash at Speed Force
Hawkman/Hawkgirl at Being Carter Hall
Martian Manhunter at The Idol-Head of Diabolu
Wonder Woman at Diana Prince is the New Wonder Woman
Vixen and Zatanna at Justice League Detroit
and many more obscure DC heroes at DC Bloodlines
Our thanks to Shag and the great cosplayers at The Superhero Costume Forum for sharing your pics.

Why Friday the 13th is Scary
Aaah! It's Booster's evil twin from the Power Posse (as seen in JLA Classified #8)! But, no, this "cosplay" posted on the tumblr blog of Cool Guy Errant isn't what makes today so scary. No, that honor goes to the news that one of today's DC Comics panels at Comic-Con International will be devoted to a love-fest for the New 52. *shudder*
4:15-5:15 DC Comics-The New 52— DC Comics-The New 52 and The New 52 Wave 2 are the industry's most talked about industry-shattering events. Although the landscape has changed, we're not done making news! Be a part of history as panelists discuss what's coming next in this exciting time for DC Entertainment.
With both Dan Jurgens and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on today's panel, maybe we might finally learn what Booster will be up to after Justice League International. Keep your fingers crossed, Boosterphiles!

Everybody's Talking About It
Booster Gold could be as bad an actor as Joe Montana, and I suspect that I would still watch him play a cadaver on CSI: New York.
Last week's poll question: If Booster Gold became an actor, what sorts of roles would you expect to find him cast in? (37 votes)
Comic-Con International 2012 is underway in San Diego, and you can hear it all the way out here on the east coast. With the injection of Hollywood appeal, this event is now estimated to generate nearly $200 million for the city of San Diego this week alone. That's about the total gross profit of all domestic comics sold so far this year! Now that Comic-Con, once the mother of all comic book conventions, is a cross-media institution unto itself, how do you feel about its role as the modern geek Mecca?

Trying to Predict the Future
So last week we learned that Justice League International is being canceled for reasons as yet unknown. I've gnashed my teeth over the potential loss of Skeets and the future undiscovered country for the members of the JLI. What could motivate DC to do such things?
I'm not alone in trying to guess what's coming next. Among those speculating is Tom Bondurant, who considers the JLI's future in his "Grumpy Old Fan" column for Comic Book Resources's Robot 6 blog.
A JLI book which took such an approach [as Checkmate] might come out something like Joe Kelly and Doug Mahnke's Justice League Elite. That wouldn't be so bad by itself, but if the next JLI included high-profile superheroes like Booster Gold and Guy Gardner, having to juggle public images with office politics and the dangers of diplomacy, it could be a real change of pace for the League books.
Or, you know, DC could just make it another "proactive" super-team like Extreme Justice...
Some people remember the Alamo or the Lusitania. I remember Extreme Justice. *shudder*
Meanwhile, James Hunt reports for Comic Book Resources on DC's panel at the Kapow Comic Convention in London last weekend. After DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio rejected a question about the Flash from an event attendee, another audience member asked about the future of Booster Gold and Skeets. Dan DiDio's response was short and cryptic:
DiDio: There is a definite plan. I love Skeets! Just like I love Wally West.
Take note that's the same Wally West who, despite being the focus of the past 25 years of Flash comics, hasn't been seen since his predecessor ruined history in Flashpoint. Could Skeets be busy behind-the-scenes working to restore the missing West to reality? Or does DiDio just mean that we won't be seeing Skeets anytime soon, either?
Poor, poor Skeets.

Blue and Gold: Public Speakers for Hire
Morenstern has unearthed a new YouTube video of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. This time the pair are giving a presentation on how to be American super heroes to a crowd assembled at the 2011 Aki Con anime convention.
Why the pair is presenting their panel at an anime convention is a question that doesn't need asking. Wherever there is a paycheck or a public forum, there will be Blue and Gold.
