No Skeets for You!

Russ Burlingame asked Dan Jurgens about the Justice League International cancellation on Wednesday at comicbook.com. As expected, Jurgens wouldn't or couldn't elaborate on DC's bigger plans, but he did manage to deliver this devastating news:

© DC Comics

Burlingame: For all we old Booster Gold fans, will we see the New 52 Skeets before all of this is over?

Dan Jurgens: The plan had been to unveil Skeets in #13. Since we're not going to get there, Skeets will be "heard" and not seen.

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"?

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"?

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"!?!

First DC screws us out of the 50th issue of Booster Gold, where we were promised the resolution of the Black Beetle's story, and now the company screws us out of meeting Skeets in the New 52? Mr. Jurgens, maybe you should consider resolving your stories a little faster in the future.

Oh, you'd better have a plan to fix this, DC.

Do You Need a Tissue?

Judging by your attachment to Daniel and Michelle, it seems that most of us are attached to Booster and are projecting onto his two most similar cast members, his closest relatives.

Last week's poll question: Which of Booster Gold's supporting cast do you associate with yourself the most? (31 votes)

Which of Booster Gold's supporting cast do you associate with yourself the most?

Most interesting to me is that Rani gets no love at all! This needs exploring further: has DC driven all "innocents" away from comics (or at least Booster Gold comics), or do they just not come here to Boosterrific.com to vote? Or do we all simply disdain the "Mary Sue" character that seemed to have no purpose or resolution? Hmm?

On another down note, it sure looks like Justice League International is being canceled. Not knowing what comes next is a problem for me: I hate the uncertainty. How do you feel about it?

New Releases: Justice League #9

I can't personally recommend that you buy today's Justice League #9. I haven't liked anything about this title since its "New 52" relaunch, and I actively despise the current Captain Marvel Shazam back-up story. Typically, I'd tell you to flush your money down the toilet before spending it on this trash. However, this issue begins a new story which this week's earlier solicitations advertise will tie-in with the Justice League International Annual (and possibly hint at the reason for the cancellation of the Justice League International.)

So if you've got $5 burning a hole in your pocket, consider blowing that cash on this issue. (I suspect we won't be seeing that endorsement as a pull quote on the cover of the inevitable collected trade edition.) Meanwhile, Skeets is too busy self-medicating its abandonment issues with heroin to care about what you buy. (Green Arrow fans will know what I'm talking about.)

Will Booster Gold get his own series back? Where's Dan Jurgens going? Will we ever see Skeets again???

Welcome Home, Geoff Johns

On Friday, DC announced via their blog that Justice League International Annual #1 will be shipping August 29, 2012. DC promises that "the ramifications of this [issue] will be felt across the board," but the best part of this news is that Geoff Johns will be co-writing the book.

© DC Comics

Johns is probably on-board for this one-shot because the issue will tie-in with his regular gig as writer of Justice League (issue #12, specifically). For his part, co-writer DiDio is probably on-board to tie-off some loose ends dangling from the his recently-canceled gig as writer of OMAC. Fans of either series should be excited about the crossover potential here, especially since Johns and DiDio are Chief Creative Officer and Co-Publisher of DC Comics, respectively, and therefore are in a position to see that what happens in their issue of JLI is relevant to events throughout the company.

If the solicitation cover is any indication, it looks like the first thing that the powerful pair has done is ensure that Booster Gold no longer has any gold on his cowl. That's already a change for the better.
