His Least Favorite

Jonny Michel, who shared some artwork with Booster boosters back in October, got in touch with more commission news.

I recently got engaged to the wonderful lady who purchased me these Chris Giarrusso commissions.

In celebration, I went nuts. I did something I normally never do. I went out and purchased a semi-expensive commission off of eBay.com from one of my favorite DC artists, Ethan Van Sciver.

On top of the amazing sketch card I received in the mail, Ethan also filmed the entire sketching process and commentary and posted it on his Youtube channel! So, not only do I have this beautiful Booster Gold drawing (with an excellent *classic* popped collar and Ethan's take on Skeets), but I also have a 45 minute video of how he made it! Seriously, how cool is that?

Unfortunately, upon watching the video, I learned the one devastating blow this sketch is to the Booster Gold community. In this video, we learned that Booster Gold ... is one of Ethan Van Sciver's least favorite DC characters ... and I was the goof that asked for the commission.

Please, hold back your screams of shock and terror. I know. It's crazy.

Ethan actually offers a really good reason why this is though. Basically, he hasn't gotten the chance to get into Booster Gold by drawing and learning about his story. Luckily, by the end of the video, I feel like he was kinda getting into it, especially when he started drawing the collar.

See? The collar is important!

Congratulations on your new commission, Jonny. (And congrats on your engagement, too! I predict many years of happily married commissions in your future.)

Wait Until They Get A Load of Him

Those of you not on Twitter may not have seen this:

That's Batman artist Tony Daniel tweeting his take on Booster Gold and Skeets in pencils from what is presumably Batman #45, due to hit shelves on April 18. I can't wait!

No Action Today

If you're going to your Local Comic Shop today, don't expect to find "Booster Shot" Part Five. Action Comics #997 won't be out until next week.

(Yes, Action Comics #996 came out two weeks ago, but last week was a 5th-week "skip week", so DC doesn't count it as part of their regular schedule.)

So while we have to wait an extra week for more Booster Gold, we'll just consider Action #997 a Booster Gold Valentine's Day special.

Dancing to His Own Drummer

Today's fan art was spotted on Amino.com.

Booster Gold and Skeets by Jon Samuel Kent on Amino.com

The artist identifies himself as Jonathan Samuel Kent (Superman's son!). He derides this piece as not his best work, but it looks pretty "Boosteriffic" to us.

This Day in History: Superfriends

As we continue the march to the milestone Action Comics #1000, it's probably worth noting that Booster Gold was seen in previous anniversary issues.

Booster had only been in comics for 2 years when he was included in Action Comics #600, released 30 years ago today. Booster's role was a small one, appearing in a pin-up of the Justice League International by Linda Medley and Art Adams.

That's a happy bunch. Obviously Booster is pleased to be beside his best bud Blue Beetle, but everyone else seems to be enjoying the occasion as well. Everyone but Guy Gardner. Does that guy ever smile?

Will Booster be reunited with his Justice League pals in Action #1000? I guess we'll find out in April.
