The Best Around

Last things first: the final episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold is scheduled to air tonight on Cartoon Network at 7:00 PM EST. Booster Gold is guaranteed to make an appearance at the end of the episode. Batman: The Brave and the Bold, you will be missed.

As for the weekly poll, Geoff Johns may have brought a lot of modern readers to Booster Gold, but the modern trend of 6-issue stories isn't even remotely the most popular option with the character's readers. Canceling popular television shows and running comic book unpopularly too long? Does DC pay any attention to its fan base?

Last week's poll question: What is your preferred length for a single comic book story? (38 votes)

What is your preferred length for a single comic book story?

Speaking of fan favorites, you probably know that you can rate each issue of Booster's 470 and counting comic book appearances here at Boosterrific.com. (If you haven't done so, I highly encourage you to rate your feelings about Booster's appearances. I assure you that people are interested in your opinion.) According to the fan ratings already in the Boosterrific.com database, only 15 issues have earned perfect 5-star ratings from multiple reviewers. Narrowing those down to 5 samples from distinctly different series, I think it's about time we started figuring out which of these is the best.

[If you need your memory jogged, here are the links to the issues in question: Booster Gold, v1, #1; JLA Classified #5; Countdown to Infinite Crisis #1, Booster Gold, v2, #30; Justice League: Generation Lost #8.]

Snap! Sadly Nevermore, Amazing Pencil

Yesterday, Dan Jurgens tweeted some solemn news:

Follow Dan Jurgens (djjurgens) on Twitter

Since 1985? That means that pencil did the work on all 115 comic books penciled by Jurgens that featured Booster Gold, including the entire volume 1 and most of volume 2 of the character's self-titled series. That's also the same pencil that created Doomsday and killed Superman! (And created and killed Waverider!)

Someone save that pen: the Space Museum is getting a whole new exhibit!

Old Releases: Booster Gold on DVD

No new comic books featuring Booster Gold are scheduled for released today, but if you have to spend some money to get your fix of Booster Gold, consider picking up the Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season 2 Part 1 DVD. Frequent site contributor Morgenstern notes that the Amazon.com listing for the animated DVD lists only 2 actors: Batman and Booster Gold! Who knew that Booster Gold did his own voice-over work?

It's just like Booster to hog the limelight when he isn't even the featured star. Batman actually works with 35 heroic guests stars on the 12 episodes on the DVD, and only two of them are Booster Gold and Skeets. The pair appear as contestants on the Riddler's game show, "Riddle Me This?" in the introduction to the episode "A Bat Divided!"

Skeets probably doesn't receive billing because he doesn't have a speaking part: as you can see in the trailer above, the shiny sidekick is gagged in his appearance. Worse, the game show was rigged, so Skeets didn't even win a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni! Better luck next season, Skeets!

Even Skeets is a Member of the DC Nation

Cartoon Network's animated Green Lantern cartoon debuted last week. Several promotions for the upcoming "DC Nation" block of cartoons ran during the show. Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted a certain golden-garbed figure and his 25th-century sidekick among the many DC heroes. Unfortunately, Booster and Skeets weren't seen in any of the cartoons previewed (their appearance was actually lifted from the cover of Booster Gold #40 by Pat Ollife), but it's good to see them included nonetheless.

A video recording of the broadcast commercial can be seen in this YouTube video uploaded by tdubois01. (Morgenstern notes that Booster is at about the 6 second mark.) Hopefully DC will release a better copy of the commercial soon so that the world can get a good view of the greatest hero (and sidekick) that no one has ever heard of.

UPDATE 11/15/2011: DCEntertainmentTV has uploaded the whole video in better quality here.
