Keeper of the Shrine

Drake McWhorter (aka @TrailerDrake) recently posted his pop culture "shrines" on Twitter. Here's his space devoted to BFFs Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.

TrailerDrake Blue and Gold shrine

Personally, I keep all my Booster action figures and knickknacks on their own bookshelf. Actually, if I count the ones still in their original packaging, two bookshelves in two different rooms. And that's not counting the comics. The Booster-dedicated short boxes (BG volumes 1 & 2 and 52) are on a third bookshelf. Come to think of it, Booster takes up a lot of room in my house.

Do any other Booster boosters devote space in their life to Booster Gold?

I Said I'd Be Busy But This Is Big News

I know that I said on Monday that I'd be busy this week and that "big news" would have to wait until next week.

I was wrong.

DC Comics released solicitations for December on Wednesday, and guess who's coming to Action Comics!

ACTION COMICS #994
Written by DAN JURGENS
Art by BRETT BOOTH* and JOE PRADO
Cover by DAN JURGENS and TREVOR SCOTT
Variant cover by NEIL EDWARDS and JAY LEISTEN
"BOOSTER SHOT" part two! It's the time-hopping team-up of Superman and Booster Gold—and on their quest to verify Mr. Oz's identity, a mysterious force attempts to sabotage the journey! This time (pun!) our heroes wind up in the crosshairs of a deadly new villain—the time wraith responsible for their tumultuous journey!
On sale DECEMBER 27 • $2.99 US

(* Note that while the solicitations indicate both issues will be drawn by Brett Booth, he has denied via Twitter that he will be the artist, calling the solicitations "a mistake". Therefore, actual artist for these issues remains unknown.)

It's been a good week for Booster Gold fans. We learned on Wednesday that the true identity of Mr. Oz isn't Booster but Kal-El's father, Jor-El . (*Whew!*) And now news that our hero will be returning from obscurity to team up with Superman in a story by Dan Jurgens? Whoo-hoo!

Thanks for this early Christmas present, DC. Extra thanks to all who called this news to my attention.

You can read the original solicitation details on Newsarama.com.

That's One Very Crowded Elevator

Last week, Kevin Maguire unveiled the full wraparound cover for the upcoming hardcover Justice League International Omnibus cover on Twitter. It's a doozy!

You can click the pic above to go to Twitter for a bigger pic, but I've cropped the best bit for you here:

© DC Comics

When it was originally solicited waaaay back in March as the Justice League by Giffen and DeMatteis Omnibus, it looked like this collection would reuse Maguire's famous "crowded elevator" cover from Justice League #1. I'm glad they changed it. While the cover to JL #1 was great, it wasn't golden!

The omnibus will collect most of the first four years of the Justice League International era, including many classic Blue and Gold hijinks. You'll find it in your Local Comic Shop on October 17.

As Good a Day as Any for a Hurricane

© DC Comics
Captain Atom #16
(1988)

As I type this on Sunday night, the television news is telling me that what's left of Hurricane Irma is headed straight for me. While I don't expect any damage (fingers crossed), I do expect power outages.

Additionally, this Thursday I'm supposed to leave town to attend a wedding. (On the Georgia coast, no less, assuming it's still there on Thursday.) This is going to make blogging extra difficult.

Therefore, I'm going to go ahead and queue up some blog posts for the rest of this week. If there's any big, new Booster Gold news this week (hey, it could happen), I'll cover it next week.

Enjoy your week, everybody!

Guy Patterson's Secret Identity

The average movie fan may recognize Tom Everett Scott's face from his debut in That Thing You Do! or his more recent Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.

However, Booster Gold fans are more likely to recognize Scott's voice. He played our hero in animated episodes of Justice League Unlimited and Batman: Brave and the Bold (including "The Greatest Story Never Told").

Earlier this week, Gwen Ihnat interviewed Scott for The A.V. Club.

AV Club: How many kids do you have?

Tom Everett Scott: I have two kids. I have a daughter who's 17. She's in 12th grade, and then I have a son who's 12. He's in seventh grade.

AVC: Do they still talk to you?

TES: They still talk to me. One of them is trying to talk to me right now.

I mean, I've done some things that have kept me on their good side certainly. Like my daughter got to meet Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. So she was pretty excited about that, but I've got to keep doing stuff like that or I'm dead.

AVC: Like playing Booster Gold on Justice League? And your Air Buddies appearances—is that for your kids?

TES: Yeah, absolutely. I've been able to do stuff that they can enjoy. The Air Buddies movie stuff. It's been great for that. I'm playing a lot of dad roles these days. And Booster Gold is so much fun because that's one of my favorite jobs—sitting around a recording studio with really talented voice actors. They're so good and they're all doing multiple characters in these episodes. I'm allowed to only do Booster Gold. I don't have much range. I wanted to play other characters. They just wouldn't let me.

AVC: Because you're just nailing Booster Gold!

Seconded! I like Diedrich Bader on Justice League Action, but Booster Gold will always sound like Tom Everett Scott to me.
