Sooner to Be New Release: Blue Beetle

Booster booster Rob Snow points us to the interview of Josh Trujillo, writer of next week's Keith Giffen-inspired Blue Beetle #7, by David Brooke for AIPTComics.com.

AIPT: Blue Beetle #7 features Booster Gold. On a scale of one to 10, how fun is it to write Booster?!

Josh Trujillo: Umm, like a 12 on that scale? Booster is one of the most ridiculous and perfect good boys in comics. He has such an incredible hook and SO MANY good stories! A huge ego and also a huge heart for his friends! I really can't get enough of him.

It took a lot of restraint not to let him completely take over the book, but this story is about Jaime's journey in helping save his mentor and friend, our beloved Ted Kord. And Booster is there helping him every step of the way.

AIPT: This is a time travel issue. How hard is it to avoid retcons?

JT: I'll leave that for the wiki editors to answer!

In all seriousness, I pored over so many comics to find openings/moments that wouldn't directly conflict with the work Keith and his collaborators did. But the simple fact is that this is a time travel story, so try not to get too stuck in the details and just enjoy the ride. Let the continuity cops deal with the mess Booster and Jaime are making (and they will!)

As a fan of huge egos and Time Masters, let me go on the record and say that I am not enthusiastic about anyone making a mess of established continuity. But this sounds like fun, so I'll allow it. This time.

Blue Beetle #7 features art by Natacha Bustos, Howard Porter, Cully Hamner, Scott Kolins, with a Booster Gold cover by Adrian Gutierrez. Look for the issue on shelves (in English and Spanish editions) March 5.

The Future Is Written in Chalk

Speaking of the Jurassic League....

Booster booster The Blot of TheBlotSays.com has his finger on the pulse of the world of collectibles and writes us with breathless anticipation:

Have you heard about the upcoming DC HeroClix series, Masters of Time!?! There’s gotta be a Booster figure in the set right? They haven’t unveiled the whole line up yet, but have shown a few figures. The series will include Rip Hunter and his chalk board!!! That’s basically a Booster Gold release right?

© WizKids Games

I cannot deny that's certainly a Dan Jurgens' Booster Gold Volume 2-era Rip Hunter drawing come to (still) life.

Rip is just one of the 15 pre-release pieces pictured at shop.wizkids.com/collections/masters-of-time, which says the set is scheduled for a 3rd quarter 2024 release, meaning we won't get a full list of figures probably until sometime closer to July and September. When released, the full set is advertised to contain

  • 16 Common Figures
  • 15 Uncommon Figures
  • 12 Rare Figures (and 3 Rare Primes!)
  • 13 Super Rare Figures (and 2 Super Rare Primes!)
  • 7 Chase Figures
  • 1 Ultra-Chase Figure
  • 10 Colossal-Sized Jurassic Figures (exclusively in Jurassic Boosters!)

As you can see, the Jurassic League "colossal" figures are a central point of this "Masters of Time" set. Since we now know Booster will be crossing over with the Jurassic League in May (and Rip and Booster are family Time Masters), could a Booster Gold figure be in the set? We'll have to keep an eye out.

Thanks, Blot!

Braver, Bolder, and Batmaner

DC's May 2024 solicitations hit the web on Friday, and yeah, as usual, there's a lot of Batman. But in this case, that's not all bad...

...because Booster Gold's going to be in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13!

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #13
Written by TIM SEELEY, MARK RUSSELL, DELILAH S. DAWSON, JOSHUA HALE FIALKOV, JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER, RODNEY BARNES
Art by KELLEY JONES, JON MIKEL, SERG ACUÑA, LISANDRO ESTHERREN, JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER
Cover by SIMONE DI MEO
Variant cover by FRANCESCO MATTINA
Variant cover by JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER
$7.99 US | 64 pages | Prestige | (all covers are card stock)
ON SALE 5/28/24

Brave and the Bold enters its second year with five tremendous tales! Nightwing and Deadman face the ghosts of the circus, as presented in spectacularly horrific detail by Kelley Jones! Booster Gold (allegedly) causes a disaster that must be fixed by…the JURASSIC LEAGUE?! Artemis’s quest comes to its stunning conclusion! Batman and Guy Gardner face high strangeness when a UFO crashes in Gotham! And finally, Jason Shawn Alexander brings his legendary talents to Batman Black and White!

The question remains which of those writers/artists will be writing the Booster Gold story. The 2022 The Jurassic League mini-series was written by Daniel Warren Johnson and drawn by Juan Gedeon, neither of whom appear to be attached to this project. Any guesses?

You can read the rest of the solicitations at AIPTComics.com.

Going out of Business

The algorithms that run the Internet have decided that I'm the target audience for the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game. Despite it being a game built on DC Comic book super heroes, they are wrong.

I didn't care for Injustice or DCeased or DC Vs. Vampires, so It probably won't surprise you that I am not interested in playing as a villain and assassinating the heroes of the DC Universe. But GameRant.com has proven that it isn't entirely without value.

Booster Gold International has been out of business since Millennium in 1988, so I guess the events of Kill the Justice League must take place on an alternate Earth, perhaps one where Millennium never happened (or one where the Manhunters won?).

That's still not enough to make me want to roleplay as an unrepentantly psychopathic murderer with a bomb in my head, but I can't say that Kill the Justice League has nothing going for it anymore.

Fashionably Late Super Powers

McFarlane Toys has announced the latest additions to their line of updated Super Power Collection action figures, including Manga Batman, Brainiac, Green Lantern Kilowog, and, most importantly Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) and Blue Beetle's Aerial Mobile Headquarters, better known as The Bug!

Those are all great, but McFarlane has buried the lede. If you look closely at the Bug's packaging, you just might notice another figure that has not been released or even announced.

There's no way McFarlane made a Booster Gold figure just to take pictures for the Bug's packaging, right? It seems a safe assumption that we'll be getting a McFarlane Toys Booster Gold Super Powers Collection figure sooner or later.

Blue Beetle and his Bug are available for pre-order via links at McFarlane.com. You might want to go ahead and buy both so you'll be ready with your own "Blue And" whenever Gold finally arrives.

Thanks to eagle-eyed Jake for bringing this to our attention.
