Booster Gold, Martian Manhunter, Mary Marvel, Superboy, and Superman have arrived in Emerald City, the capital city of El Caldero and all are suffering from the mysterious Kryptonite poisoning that is spreading worldwide.

Booster's concern about what might happen if his Time Sphere were to fall into the hands of General Zod proves prescient when he is attacked by the Eradicatrix, a robot in the form of a female Kryptonian and loyal to General Zod. Ironically, the original Kryptonian Eradicator was programmed to preserve Kryptonian culture, whereas General Zod was imprisoned in the Phantom Zone for attempting to overthrow Krypton's government, which would seem to be the opposite of preserving Kryptonian culture.

Speaking of maintaining a culture, everyone has seen Star Wars, right? So you must recognize that "Freezing in Carbonite" is a reference to events in its 1980 sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, right? Right? (Of course Booster Gold sees himself as Han Solo. What a nerf herder.)
