No Soliciting

The advance solicitations for DC Comics shipping in August have been released. You can see them all at ComicBookResources.com. What you won't find is any indication that we'll be seeing Booster Gold. Oh, well. He has to show up eventually, right? (Does Warner Brothers know it's spending money on a character that the public has barely seen in years?)

On a related note, DC is rolling out a new logo, and I want to congratulate them on at least one change for the better.

It's not perfect (it looks like the overly stylized number font found on modern Detroit Lions jerseys), but it is a huge improvement on the pudding-cup inspired logo that the company has been using since rolling out the New 52. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

If DC is taking a step back as they step forward, maybe next time we see Booster Gold, he'll have his high collar back, too. (I can dream.)

If You Haven't Seen it Yet

"What type of gold means certain death for Jonah Hex?"

Note the clever re-working of the "Booster Gold" logo star from high-tech to Old West sheriff's badge. That's a nice touch.

ComicBookResources.com released this cover on Friday. You can see a bigger version of this pic on their site here. You can buy a copy of the book this cover is attached to when the book hits stands on April 24, 2013.

Nothing to See Here

No, this is not a post about the new DC logo. Which as I'm sure you would expect, I don't like, mainly because to me it says "facebook digital widget" instead of "imaginative entertainment." Look no further than DC's Twitter feed here to see a practical example of how hard this new design is to read and how little information it conveys.

But back to the original point of this post: as mentioned recently, Boosterrific.com is going through some continued server maintenance. The site will be migrated to a new server at some point during this weekend. This will definitely result in some down-time for the site, and the forum will likely be closed for most of the weekend. Hopefully, everything can be restored to function in its new home by Monday.

In the meantime, everyone try to enjoy your non-Boosterrific weekend, no matter what DC looks like.

Booster Gold Logos

Booster Gold logo by Tod Clein. © DC Comics

FYI: Late last week I traded emails with Todd Klein, longtime professional comic book letterer. (You can find his blog here, chock full of interesting comic book tidbits.) Todd confirmed that he was the original designer of the first Booster Gold masthead logo, and Rob Leigh designed the modern masthead logo. Everyone thank Mr. Klein for his contribution to the greatest character on this website.
