Time for Change?

Well, if you feel that way about it, I'll not worry so much about my own bias against fan fiction.

Last week's poll question: Which type of fan labor do you most want to see featured in Boosterrific posts? (43 votes)

Which type of fan labor do you most want to see featured in Boosterrific posts?

On Tuesday, Google warned me that Boosterrific.com is woefully behind the times in mobile device integration and recommended that I update the site to function more universally. The company kind of implied that if I didn't get on the stick, it was going to affect my ad revenue (all $20 of it). I don't like to admit it, but Google has a point.

The site design predates the iPhone and the ensuing smart phone revolution. Given the growing pains of the mobile device operating systems and displays, I haven't ever worried much about correcting the site for a modern audience. I know it needs some updating, but there's always seems to be something more important. Do I need to work on those revisions sooner than later?

We Hold These Tributes to Be Self-Evident

I'm willing to forgive one slip-up, Justice League 3000, but now I'm expecting even more Blue and Gold in every issue to make up for the omission!

Last week's poll question: What is your response to Booster and Beetle being solicited for Justice League 3000 15 but not appearing in it? (41 votes)

What is your response to Booster and Beetle being solicited for Justice League 3000 15 but not appearing in it?

I've been thinking about my own biases in what I present here at Boosterrific. I really enjoy showing pictures of Booster Gold fan art and cosplayers, but I almost never mention Booster Gold fan fiction.

Part of that exclusion is because I don't personally read fan fiction and am reluctant to promote anything I haven't vetted fist. But maybe I'm doing a disservice to my visitors. So what do you say about it?

This Day in History: Darkseid Sees Gold

Booster Gold has appeared in three issues of Futures End. None of those appearances have lasted more than a couple of panels. The most recent appearance in Futures End #41 is a tiny inclusion in a collage of characters, leading Booster booster Brady Kj to comment in the Boosterrific Forum, "If that's all Booster is in this issue, it's hardly worth mentioning." Like them or not, brief cameo appearances aren't exactly a new trend for Booster.

For example, on this date in 2008, Booster Gold was seen in Death of the New Gods #6. Our hero appeared on a computer monitory as Darkseid observed the multiverse. Now, Darkseid and Booster Gold have some history dating back to Justice League International #21 (and they look like they'll have a future, if recent events in Justice League 3000 #14 are any indication). However, as in Futures End, Booster's role here is negligible.

More recently, Booster has appeared in issues of Justice League Dark and Grayson. Are these one-panel appearance worth tracking at Boosterrific.com? In a word: yes.

They may seem inconsequential to the average reader (or sane comic book buyer), but they're like catnip for the obsessive completionist collector. This site could hardly claim to be a complete chronicle of Booster's adventures if I ignored comics where Booster made only cameo appearances.

I see it as my job to keep track and inform you of these appearances. I'll leave it to you to decide whether or not you care to buy them.

Let's Get This Party Started

Yesterday I let Superman have his fun, but now it's Booster's turn.

If you refresh your browser cache and look at the header above (or the background on the sides), you'll see that I've rolled out a new dress for Booster Gold's 30th Anniversary. Yup, that's right. Whoo-hoo! Booster Gold is now an "established" super hero.

Booster Gold #1 was released on November 21, 1985 with a February 1986 cover date. He was the first character introduced into the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe, which DC is celebrating with Convergence. So we Booster Gold fans are going to celebrate, too. We'll start the celebration now and let it run until February of next year.

(And lest you think the 30th anniversary is an odd number to celebrate, I remind you that in 1992, Marvel Comics pulled out all the stops to promote Spider-Man's 30th. Reminders were printed wherever possible, and the web-slinger even got a bunch of his own hologram covers. If it's good enough for Spider-Man, it's good enough for Booster Gold!)

I've already declared 2015 the Year of Booster Gold, and I hope that DC will join in the celebration with some great new Booster Gold stories in coming months. Booster will be appearing regularly in Justice League 3000 and will play some role in April's Convergence, including his own two-issue tie-in series. That sounds like a pretty good start to what we hope will be a great year.

How are you going to celebrate Booster Gold's 30th Anniversary?

Wish I May

Thanks for voting. I'm not saying any of these things are going away, I'm just trying to figure what my focus should be.

Last week's poll question: ( votes)

A new year means new hope to see Booster Gold return to regular action in the DCnU. What do you wish for in the coming year?
