Year in Review, Day 2
The fourth most-viewed post of the year was on April 23, 2013.
One of the few bright spots of 2013 for Booster Gold were his appearances in Smallville Season 11. The regular DCnU may not have room for Booster and Skeets, but thankfully Bryan Q. Miller's television-inspired universe does.
Number 3 tomorrow.

Well Dressed Man, Part 2 of 2
The second half of my interview with Booster Gold cosplayer Nathaniel (nkpercell).

BOOSTERRIFIC: Your costume looks great. Can you describe its creation?
NATHANIEL: The costume was based specifically on a storyline in Booster Gold volume two when he traveled back in time and donned his old costume to find evidence of Max Lord's existence [Booster Gold v2, #33]. I mention this because I think the version of Skeets I made is not usually associated with this costume.
Since this was my first attempt at cosplay, there was extensive trial and error involved. I have no experience with costume-making, so I enlisted the help of my mother, who is pretty handy with a sewing machine. I designed the pattern on the fly and she built iterations of prototypes until we had something we liked for each piece. The costume was a combination of purchased items and custom-designed elements. A wig, safety goggles, blue running shirt, and black boots were combined with fabric elements and items made from wonderflex and cardboard. Some parts proved more difficult than others. For instance, I ended up purchasing 2 pairs of gloves and about 4 types of dye to get the yellow gloves, and during the dyeing process basically exploding boiling dye all over the kitchen. So it was quite an experience. We got a pretty late start and built most of the costume in the two weekends before GenCon, culminating in a near all-nighter the Sunday before GenCon. Including all the missteps, it probably cost $200-300.
I sculpted Skeets out of styrofoam based on a pattern I created, and covered it with Wonderflex, which is a heat-activated plastic material I found online. I didn't do a great job with the Wonderflex, as it was my first time working with it, so he has a bit of a battle-damaged look.
BOOSTERRIFIC: Did you enjoy cosplaying as Booster Gold?
NATHANIEL: Dressing as Booster was a fantastic experience. I was afraid it would be really hot, but the weather in Indianapolis in August was beautiful this year. The best part of the experience was meeting so many enthusiastic Booster fans. Two times, people asked me to go see their friend because they knew it would make their friend's day. I was called Green Lantern a half dozen times. One of my favorite parts of peoples' reactions was when they would say "Booster Gold!" and then a couple seconds later, excitedly, "and Skeets!", as they noticed him. This was my first experience with cosplay, but it will certainly not be my last. It was a really good time.
A big thank you to Nathaniel for sharing his experience as Booster Gold. If you missed it, you can find the first part of this interview here.

iFanboy on Booster Gold on TV
Last month Gabe Roth described what he'd like to see from a Booster Gold television show for iFanboy.com. I think the show he describes is pretty much the show that all Booster Gold fans want to see.
My fear is that the good folks at the network will get in there and start meddling. Not hard to imagine a bunch of guys with no comic book experience balking at the idea of a show centered on a character who isn't overtly "good" or formulaically fighting for truth, justice and the American way. That's not the Booster I want to see. My wish list? I want to see the full Booster costume in all its yellow and blue glory. I want to see an unashamed exploration of reluctant hero with unquenchable thirst for the spotlight. And I definitely want to see Booster's floating robot sidekick Skeets play a prominent role. I'm imagining Skeets as KITT from Knight Rider for a new generation.
As you might guess, I'm a big K.I.T.T. fan myself. To think that we could have a shot at talking S.K.E.E.T.S. ("Security Keeper, Emancipated Electronic Talking Series"?) toys lining shelves at Wal-Mart one day. I wonder if David Hasselhoff would be interested in guest starring as the Linear Man?

Only His Hairdresser Knows for Sure
Booster Gold skipped a digital issue of Smallville Season 11, but he's back for issue #48, and Skeet's is spilling his secrets!

Booster Gold is a bottle blond? Heavens, no! Presumably, this is a sly reference to the actor who played Booster on Smallville, Eric Martsolf. Martsolf is not a natural blond. He has brown hair. The real Booster Gold has blond hair!
Also in this comic, Booster retells his origin for Smallville fans. In Smallville continuity, there isn't any mention of Booster's signature force field, and his Booster Shots, er, "wrist blasters," are made from 22nd-century technology.
You can download a copy of the issue from ComiXology.com for just 99¢, or you can wait until the issue is collected in Smallville Season 11 #14 at your Local Comic Shop on June 12.

You Don't Know Us, But We Love Skeets, Too!
This past weekend, Russ Burlingame interviewed Smallville Season 11 writer Bryan Q. Miller for ComicBook.com. The interview primarily focuses on Miller's work with Superman and his creator-owned Earthward but doesn't forget the important stuff. By which I mean Skeets.
ComicBook.com: Skeets was barely in the television show, so there didn't appear to be any need to include him as a stand-alone character in [Smallville Season 11 #13]. Why choose to include Skeets, especially in a physical form?
Miller: Because I love Skeets. I've always loved Skeets. He's the straight man. And, as far as I'm concerned (thanks to Justice League Unlimited), he sounds like Billy West.
ComicBook.com: Do you realize that you've earned the eternal gratefulness of Boosterrific.com, who have been missing Skeets since before Flashpoint?
Miller: I didn't then, but I do now — and I'm happy to help!
Thanks, Bryan! We can never have too much Skeets in our lives!
