Misty 4-Color Memories of the Way We Were

This weekend in the Boosterrific Forum, Comic Related "Gold Exchange" columnist Russ Burlingame asked: "As the hardcore fans of the series, what is your favorite single image from the Jurgens/Rapmund run on the title? It could be a cover, a splash page or whatever."

There are quite a few things to like about the Jurgens/Rapmund run. If I had to narrow it to one image, it would be this panel from page 5 of Booster Gold #12.

I'm nuts about the trophies in the Batcave. I think it's great that Batman cares for continuity as much as I do. It is wish fulfillment at its finest to see Booster Gold (and Goldstar!) travel back in time to steal the 1966 George Barris Batmobile from Alfred. What can I say? I'm a fan, too.

If you have an opinion, travel over to the Forum to tell Russ what you liked best from the soon to be discontinued second volume of Booster Gold series.

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #44

Russ Burlingame's latest "Gold Exchange" column with Dan Jurgens has been posted on Comic Related.com. Among other issues, this month's column insightfully has Jurgens comparing and contrasting the current Flashpoint event with Jurgen's own Tangent line of a decade ago.

GX: In a very general way, what separates Flashpoint from something like Tangent? The creative approach seems to be the same (lots and lots of people working on a universe "led" by a couple of guys) and obviously we've got the "similar-but-not-the-same superheroes" thing. What's the big thing that should make us go "Damn!" and think that, continuity-wise, this is more of a rat's nest than when Kyle Rayner got stuck in the Tangent Universe for a while?

DJ: Tangent was structured around the idea of taking the names of DC characters and completely turning them around, upside down and inside out, in a very different universe. Flashpoint is very much about a timeline that differs from the normal DCU because of altered elements.

A word of warning: before you head over to read the rest of the interview, be sure to read Booster Gold #44. There are definitely spoilers in this week's "Gold Exchange."

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #43

Last week Russ Burlingame notified us via the Boosterrific forum that his his latest "Gold Exchange" column with J.M. DeMatteis at Comic Related would be posted today. Unfortunately, I don't have the link to the column yet. I'll keep you posted.

This is DeMatteis' last "Gold Exchange" interview for the foreseeable future, and we have been promised that DeMatteis will be "spilling what his 'perfect' ending for the run" was, and how DC denied an attempt by DeMatteis to insert Dan Jurgens into Booster Gold's continuity. Sounds like DeMatteis is going out with a bang!

[UPDATE 04/20/11: It's 5:25 EDT Wednesday, and it seems that Comic Related still hasn't posted the article. To paraphrase the immortal Billy Dee Williams, they told me they'd post it. I trusted them to post it. It's not my fault!]

Panel Discussions Podcast with Dan Jurgens

Late yesterday afternoon Russel Burlingame's third Panel Discussions podcast was posted on ComicRelated.com. Burlingame and Dan Jurgens had so much to talk about, some of their conversation was left on the cutting room floor, including such questions and answers as:

Panel Discussions: Will we ever see the Black Beetle arc finished? Will we learn the identity of Rip's mom? Will you keep Rani?

Dan Jurgens: Yes to the first and third questions, while the second is more likely to stay a mystery!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. In the podcast, Dan Jurgens discusses his plans for Booster Gold in coming months, as well as his plans for Black Beetle, Magog and his suggestions of how Booster Gold should have been handled in Justice League: Generation Lost. So follow the link above and get an earful of Dan Jurgens courtesy of Russ Burlingame.

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #42

Russ Burlingame's posted his latest "Gold Exchange" column with J.M. DeMatteis at Comic Related late last week. If you haven't read it, you can find that article here. Spoiler warning: don't read it if you haven't yet read Booster Gold #42.

GX: Is there any reason to think that Rip intentionally misled Michael about Nishtikeit's bio-agent?

JMD: In my version of events, yes, Rip intentionally misled Booster, knowing what was coming.

Something about this issue still feels out of place, as though this story didn't really belong in this series at this time. The characters seem like warped versions of their recent selves: motivations, reactions, attitudes... no one is quite right. It's enlightening to read what DeMatteis hoped to accomplish in this story. Whether he achieved it or not is a different question altogether.
