New Digital Release: Smallville: Season 11 #42

Booster Gold, hero from the future, will be coming to a computer near you today as DC releases Smallville: Season 11 #42 on ComicXology.com. This is the first of the 9-part story "Argo" reported to feature Smallville version of Booster Gold (who looks a lot like soap-opera star Eric Martsolf).

Don't worry if digital comics aren't your thing. You'll find this issue at your Local Comic Shop on May 8, collected as part of Smallville: Season 11 #13. Be sure not to confuse this printed issue with the digital Smallville: Season 11 #13, which was printed in Smallville: Season 11 #5. I'm sure that DC has a good reason for making the numbering for these issues so confusing, but don't ask me what it is!

New Release: Batwing #19

First David Zavimbe quit the Justice League International after Batwing #12. Now DC tells us he'll be quitting Batman Incorporated altogether in Batwing #19, released today.

So the question isn't whether Batman will be replacing Zavimbe as Batwing, but who Batman will be replacing Zavimbe with. In an interview with Vaneta Rogers at Newsarama.com, writer Jimmy Palmiotti described the new Batwing:

This new Batwing will be a character more people will relate to...or more likely wish they were. We are approaching this with the feeling of "what if Batman picked me as the next Batman" kind of feel. There is joy, chaos, over the top action and adventure and a lot of romance.

Working from clues dropped by Palmiotti and his co-creator Justin Gray, Keith Callbeck handicapped the identity of the new Batwing at Comicosity.com. Callbeck gives Booster Gold 250 to 1 odds to be the new Batwing. (Terry McGinnis is the favorite, at 5 to 1.)

We all know that Booster knows a thing or two about playing the odds, but we'll have to pick up Batwing #19 to see if he's the winner of this competition.

New Releases: Batwing Vol. 2

Now that we are 99.9% sure that Booster will be appearing in next month's All-Star Western #19, you may want to pick up today's All-Star Western #18 so that you have an idea what's going on in that title. Then you can hit the ground running next month when Booster arrives to save the day.

While it's a long shot that Booster would appear in today's All-Star Weatern, Booster's appearance in today's release of Batwing Volume 2: In the Shadow of The Ancients is a sure thing. This trade collects Batwing issues #7-12 and 0. You may recall that Booster Gold and the JLI assisted Batwing in Africa in Batwing #12. Batwing quit the JLI in its very next issue. Maybe Batwing knew how bad the Justice League International Annual was going to be, so he got out while the getting was good.

Snubbed!

In last week's Justice League #18, the team considers new members. Their short list of candidates includes a veritable who's who of pre-Flashpoint Leaguers, but there's one who stands out by his absence. That's right, I'm talking about Booster Gold.

I have to assume that Booster's omission is purely because he is currently lost in time. There's no denying that candidates Black Canary, Black Lightning, Firestorm, Nightwing and Zatanna are all overly qualified to be Leaguers. Vixen certainly deserves a shot at New 52 redemption after the way she was recently mistreated in the pages of Justice League International. But there is no way that even Batman himself could ever convince Booster that some Joanie-come-lately calling herself "Goldrush" is going to take his rightful place at the big table!

So who is this female "Goldface"-impersonator? Is she just another gold digger, out for one of those coveted Justice League chairs with her logo on the back? Goldrush, you're going to be sorry when Goldstar comes looking for her Justice League invitation that you stole!

New Releases: Justice League of America #2

Justice League of America #2 hits stores today. What are the chances that we will get another Booster Gold reference this month? The solicitation doesn't give much hope, but Skeets has his fins crossed!

Also out today is a new printing of Superman: The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus. The volume includes Booster Gold's appearances in Justice League America #69 and Man of Steel #20. This hardcover will set you back $99.99, so if you are buying it just for Booster Gold, there are some some cheaper options, including buying the original back issues from your Local Comic Shop.
