Jurgens on JLI #6
Josie Campbell of Comic Book Resources interviewed Dan Jurgens last week about his plans for the future of the Justice League International. Perhaps more interesting than the future is the still-muddled past of familiar DC characters in the unfamiliar DCnU.
CBR: In terms of what's next for the team, you already dealt with one big, planet-destroying menace in Peraxxus in the very first arc. As a writer, where do you go from there? How do you top a guy who nearly destroys the Earth?
DAN JURGENS: I think since the first arc was very much, for lack of a better term, plot-oriented or adventure oriented, I think what we want to do now is something that is more character oriented. Sort of like your question about Guy and Batman -- why are they there? Obviously we saw how everybody was brought together and were really thrown into the deep end right away without having any real knowledge of how they function together. Booster kind of knew Fire, he kind of knew Guy; the idea is that they had met previously but certainly had not worked as a team previously. If you've never done that, why are you going to continue to hang out with these strangers? So the more character-driven aspect of it where they ask themselves these questions becomes much more part of where we're going from here, and we see some of those things dealt with in issue #6, which comes out [next] month, and then really kicks off with #7.
"Booster kind of knew Fire"? Prior to Flashpoint, Booster Gold and Fire had shared panels in over 140 different comic stories over the past 24 years. According to Jurgens' response, most of those co-starring appearances are no longer part of DC's history. Should readers be sad to see the relationship erased or excited to see it starting over?
You can find the full interview here. (Thanks to Morgenstern for pointing out this interview.)

Preview Justice League International #6
Did you know that Justice League International #6 will be released next week?

Well, I am. Fortunately for me, Boosterrific Forum contributor CDN pointed out that Kotaku.com has a 5-page preview of the issue. Given that Booster Gold appears on all five pages, hinting that it will be a very Booster-oriented issue, I have to say that I like what I've seen.
(And I'll like it even more if we finally get to meet the DCnU Skeets.)

Role Models
They say we only want what we can't have, and that must apply to comic book characters, too. Metamorpho even made an appearance in the rebooted Justice League International, and that exposure didn't seem to help him in the voting.
Last week's poll question: Which previous DCU JLI member would you prefer to see join the DCnU JLI? (43 votes)
As the world's attention turns to next week's NFL Championship game, the rematch of two quite different quarterbacks takes center stage. Can male-model Tom Brady win a fourth title, proving himself inarguably among the best NFL quarterbacks? Can unflappable Eli Manning step out of the shadow of his father and sibling to prove he's equal to the hype?
More importantly, how do these quarterbacks compare to the best quarterback in history: Michael "Booster" Carter?

Make Some Room
It shouldn't really come as a shock that most of us are just in it for the Gold, the Booster Gold.
Last week's poll question: How does the new JLI compare to the original? (36 votes)
Since the end of the first JLI story is a natural occasion to switch up the roster, it's a good time to look towards the future. Some new characters will soon be available following the cancellation of their titles, it makes since that at least some of them should end up in an ensemble title like Justice League International.

Booster Gold Versus Suicide Squad
Last week, DC announced the first casualties of the New 52. Blackhawks, Hawk and Dove, Men of War, Mister Terrific, O.M.A.C. and Static Shock were among the worst-performing titles of the New 52. They will be replaced by some familiar titles in the next three months as DC seeks to inject some new blood into the rapidly decaying New 52.
Fortunately, JLI is still a top-50 seller, though it is interesting to note that even it is losing ground rapidly to a rather Boosterrific comparable:
At this rate, it should be expected that sales for the still-on-the-shelf Justice League International #5 will be worse than sales were for Booster Gold #5 in 2007. Granted, these numbers don't take into account the unknown digital sales of the JLI series, but it would still seem that Batman and Guy Gardner aren't helping promote sales significantly more than Booster Gold could do himself. Who would have expected that?
Booster Gold had two things that JLI doesn't. Since one of those things was Geoff Johns who is already busy doing what he does best reinvigorating Aquaman, the JLI will need to hang their hopes on the other one: Skeets, the JLI needs you!
