I wanted to vote for both Jim Lee and Daryn Cooke. But knowing that Jim Lee has become very high profile in DC and realistically would not be the one doing Booster I voted for Daryn Cooke

What no Walt Simonson? Jim Lee? really? why not Rob Liefield? Seriously tho, had to go with Byrrne, much as I respect the work of the others (love Mignola) Byrne especially his FF era work would best fit Booster and make him look incredible. Check out Action comics for proof.

No Liefeld because I couldn't imagine anyone voting for him. No Simonson because I wanted to keep it to just six.

I was just pulling yer leg (as usual), it's a good selection. I did want to review what I think each of these would look like.Cooke- 50-s cartoon Booster, Mignola- Booster by gaslight, Allred- psychedelic Booster, Chaykin- S&M Booster (in garters), Lee- pointless speedline Booster. Leaving Byrne to give us Awesome Booster! OK I admit I'm biased but Byrne built the universe Booster was born into so for me there is no other choice for straight-up super-heroing.

Man, that's a great one! I have to go with Darwyn for this one, mostly because think he'd get the science fiction elements of Booster's story in ways the other creators might not. That said, I'd love to see the spin Allred would put on the character.

I thought it was a pretty good sampling of diverse styles/points of view, ranging from Lee's straightforward super-heroics aesthetic to Chaykin's dark cynicism. You know, Byrne is the only one on this list who has ever actually integrated Booster into a story. (He's done it once. Lee has never written for Booster, and the others have never worked with our hero.)

NO, believe me bro I'm not excited about the New Universe, it's a marketing gimmick meant to draw in the people who don't like comics, but only alienated the actual fans who love this stuff.<br />Flashpoint was pretty much crap and the new 52 is even worse.<br />I was just enjoying the first well written issue of JLI, by Johns. It had some interesting elements and some clever scenes. Jurgens is incapable of pulling that off, he is trying to be a sincere Stan Lee and post 1980's that's not gonna cut it.<br />Again, I'm a big booster fan but DC is ruining their own list by cutting off the continuity that the fanboys like me love.<br />Marketing consultants told them to expand their brand and get into USA Today with their stupid reboot. It will shoot them in the foot just like they deserve.<br />As for Booster, it's nice to see they are bringing the time travel element back that was so well used in 52 and 52 pick up. That was booster at his best, at least his best since the JL with beetle and geffen.<br />Again, please keep up the good work on the blog!<br />XYQ

After NuDC screw up, even Sci-Fi The Arrow looks promising. I can't wait for it start, less then half a month! <br /><br /> And I can't wait for it fail so that they move on with Booster Gold series! Because you just can't go wrong about Gold ^_^

Syfy has Booster Gold. But it's on the CW that Arrow will air!<br />Syfy: Warehouse 13, Eureka, Haven, Alphas..<br />CW: Smallville, Supernatural<br />Now the same channel!<br /><br />Just point out :P

Wow I couldn't disagree more.<br />I've been reading Booster Gold since issue #1.<br />Dan Jurgens has been a poor writer, full of cliches and lameness.<br />The 1000 was his only decent bad guys.<br />Who are booster golds rogues gallery? Name the bad guys created by Jurgens to challenge booster? That weird mini alien that killed Goldstar (HORRIBLE IDEA BY THE WAY!)<br />His superman vs booster arc was actually pretty cool and has been used well since then.<br />But really, who is booster's nemesis? Two full Booster Gold series and no actual nemesis this is pathetic! Backlash the guy with the whips? The weird evil wizard during the time travel miniseries? God Jurgens pisses me off!<br />Now, after a boring, formulaic, phoney JLI series gets rightfully cancelled ( I collected the entire Geffen series from the old days and it was far superior)this Annual was the best issue of the whole run.<br />The anti-Occupy story where Jurgens made up Breakdown and his lame pals, with the most overt politicized right wing nonsene was simply horrible. The political posturing was so transparent and weak my goodness. Even my 12 year old self would have seen through the contrived drama and straw men he created. Oh yes, these anarchist protesters are destroying america, gag. I don't care his political preference but the simplistic and childish approach he took was yet another reminder of why I can't stand Jurgens immature, uncompelling and simply boring writing.<br />And yet I've read every issue of every Booster Gold comic ever published just about!!<br />Am I crazy or what?<br />Now on to the Annual. I realized halfway through that this was NOT a jurgens book, because it was clever, interesting, compelling and had some very cool ideas in it.<br />I loved how Guy was complaining and mad at booster, the reader is thinking that Guy is just doing his normal cranky pants thing. But then it turns out he was right and Booster WAS full of it. That was cool!!!!<br />I loved how The Olympian was such an arrogant bastrd!! Had me cracking up. Jurgens can't write that self-mocking tone, he is so straight laced and fake posturing trying to write a 60's style sincere comic he has no nuance whatsoever.<br />I love how Batwing quit and Guy left in the first few pages. Followed by Booster declaring this is the beginning of the New justice league! That kind of ironic juxtaposition is impossible for a simpleton like Jurgens, he can't write anything but a straight good guy vs bad guy clash.<br />Beetle"Where is superman and wonderwoman?" in the voice of a naive youngster, revealing much about his character and being funny at the same time. That's good writing. Not just a chest puffed out Im here to save the day thing that Jurgens would have done.<br />I loved how it played on Boosters fake confidence and how he was scamming everyone with the best of intentions.<br />Compare to JLI #12 with the totally predictable sad sack booster saying I give up then being persuaded by his buddies to keep up the fight. So obvious so lame so dam frustrating!<br />I absolutely LOVED the arrival of the future booster lecturing his previous self. The time travel aspect of booster has been ignored throughout the series, and finally we get the most compelling aspect of booster back in the spotlight.<br />To give Jurgens credit, the 52 card pick up was pretty cool, and wrapping booster with Rip Hunter and the time master stuff was cool. I like that and they have to keep bringing that back to show how Booster stands out from other superheros. It's a good idea that Jurgens has consistently flubbed up but he gets some credit there for sure.<br />I LOVED how the future booster fails and begins to fade away, then the real booster fades too. FINALLY SOME real drama, something interseting, something to care about something to wonder about, something open ended and dangerous and compelling!!!<br />Not just another smash up of some lame lightweaver loser that you knew exactly how it would end.<br />When I saw the author was Geoff Johns I said FINALLY a decent writer. He made JLI slighting interesting for the FIRST time in the entire series. Not totally predictable and formulaic like Jurgens.<br />Now you hear me hating on Jurgens, but don't get me wrong. I'm a huge Booster fan since issue One and there are some ideas he's had that I really liked. Having booster be a scavenger who's powers were based on bits and pieces taken from the Legion, booster as time master, booster as self-questioning leader, etc. These are good. But as a writer he is so far behind the pack, his stuff would have been corny in the 60's and that's not a compliment.<br />I don't need "dark brooding edgy". Just interesting, compelling and well written work, which unfortunately Jurgens cannot do.<br />However he's the only writer who actually has passion for doing a booster book, and until some other guy takes him on, Booster remains only a shadow of how interesting he could be.<br />Where's alan moore when we need him!<br />Keep up the good work on the blog!<br />XYQ

Clearly, you're not as jaded about the state of DC Comics as I am. Glad to hear that DC does, in fact, still reach some audience who has enthusiasm for their product.

Heh, that prank has legs. Sorry, CDN, but that "Liefeld" drawing was an April Fools Day prank. I actually drew that sketch for the post. So far as I'm aware, Liefeld has never actually drawn Booster Gold.

With one exception, all the artists I chose from this list are versatile masters with a sizable library and a unique style. In short, they are artists of which I'm a fan. (The remaining artist I included as a joke.)

I don't happen to be a fan of Campell's work. He's a slow pin-up artist with weak sequential skills. His characters have only one facial expression and are always posed like they are in the middle of a gymnastics competition. I'm sure he'd draw a very playful Booster Gold, if he ever got around to it and had an excuse to put some unnaturally deformed women in front of him.

Heh. I don't mean to be so rough on the guy. He's clearly got talent and he has earned his fans. He just doesn't pop into my mind when I think "living master," and I don't believe he deserves to be mentioned alongside as Joe Kubert.

The first 3 would do great interpretations, the last 3 I can picture and only like one of them because I think his style is at least fun. I wonder which "non-living" masters that fans would like to have seen draw Booster Gold. Perhaps a good pole question for Halloween, or perhaps a question I missed in the past.

I did ran a "no-longer-working" masters poll in March 2011 in which Curt Swan earned more votes than Jack Kirby. I'm all for re-visiting the question. Everyone has a favorite artist, and there are no wrong answers. (Except J. Scott Campbell. I mean reaaaaaly.)

Friend of the site Harry once suggested I rerun polls frequently to see how my visitors' opinions change over time. Maybe this is a good opportunity to do that.

Nice choices!<br />I'd go with Romita Jr on this list, at least to see him tackle on some DC characters. I can already picture the way he would do Booster's head more or less.<br /><br />There's many other I would love to see draw Booster & co (and by co I mean either Jaime or Ted's Blue Beetle, Guy, Ice, Fire..)<br />Amanda Conner - just to see her Kevin Maguire-esque expressions on the team, Phil Hester would be nice too, Mike Allred now that is someone I want to see "happen" with Booster, Steve Dillon could be neat too.

Damn. Did someone get the number of that bus? Ouch, ok ok I really meant say Gary Frank.<br />Criticize that choice, go on I dare ya. ;? ...and YES, I do know that he has drawn Booster ONCE (in a couple panels of a book that nobody read), so that probably discounts him. Damn, I just can't win. :(
