Dry Spell

Believe it or not, no Booster Gold comic books today (either Booster Gold or JL: Generation Lost) means that this is the first time since early May that DC has gone more than 2 weeks without releasing a Booster-centric book. Fortunately this string will be broken next week when both books are scheduled to arrive in your favorite local comic book shop. Don't waste time: use ComicShopLocator.com to plan ahead and find the store nearest you for the coming Booster Gold bonanza.

Copyright Infringment?

No doubt Booster Gold would be furious to discover that a software company is using his famous name to promote its memory management suite as Memory Booster Gold. It might seem a coincidence that the company, WinCare Tech Inc., is using Booster's name to market their product until you realize that their website, wincarepro.com, cribs the logo of the Atom!

Who would be nefarious enough to shamelessly steal aspects of multiple Justice Leaguers? Could the secret mastermind behind Memory Booster Gold be none other than Professor Ivo, creator of the awesome power-stealing android Amazo?

Costume Crazy

Few things are as important to a comic book super hero as his or her costume. The look of a character should hopefully immediately convey everything that a new reader needs to know about that character. That's why last week's brouhaha over Wonder Woman's new duds is more than some temporary media circus: it's an important window into America's association with the character of Wonder Woman. It would seem that most of us don't care for the new appearance, likely because it does not invoke what we expect from the character (which as I understand it is actually a part of Straczynski's story). Whether the design is temporary or not, it reveals our biases about what we expect of one of DC's most iconic heroes.

While Booster Gold is not as popular or as iconic as Wonder Woman, can this situation teach us any lesson about Booster's costume? Booster's look has passed through many permutations over the years only to return (more or less) to the original design just in time for the character's great renaissance. Is this a coincidence? Did Dan Jurgens strike gold (so to speak) on his first try? Or was it always the collar holding Booster back from widespread recognition?

Hmmm. There may be something to that collar business; we'll have to see what Martian Manhunter has to say about that.

Happy Independence Day

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival."
-- John Adams
July 2, not July 4, is the actual date that the Second Continental Congress voted to secede from the British Empire. July 4 is the date that the declaration of that decision of independence was signed, and has since become the national Independence Day holiday. One would think that this sort of discrepancy, coupled with the significance of the event, would cause the time period to attract trouble. And it has.

Rip Hunter... Time Master 23

Rip Hunter and his friends have dealt with a George Washington impostor both before and after the Crisis on Infinite Earths (in 1964's Rip Hunter... Time Master #23 and 1990's Time Masters #4). It's only a matter of time before Evil George Washington strikes again!
