30 Years of Skeets
Everyone knows that the best super heroes have sidekicks that reflect some aspect of their personalities. Batman has his inverse with Robin, Captain Marvel has a palette swap with Captain Marvel Junior, the Red Bee has a real bee with Michael. So what kind of sidekick should a hero from the future have? A robot, of course!
We already know that it was no accident that Booster Gold's sidekick Skeets was shaped like a football. But what kind of name is "skeets"? To find out, I asked the little fella's creator, Dan Jurgens:
In my younger days, I did some hunting. As part of that, I often went skeet shooting. For those who don't know, skeets are small, frisbee sized objects that hurl through the air for target practice.
Given his size and way he flew around, "Skeets" seemed a perfect name.
So despite having no arms or legs, it turns out that Skeets is every bit as athletically inspired as his hero.

Thanks to Dan Jurgens (who I believe has a very good chance of surviving Convergence).

There Must Be a Hole in My Pocket
While I didn't vote for New 52 Booster myself, I totally respect that someone would. Sometimes it's nice to start over.
Last week's poll question: If only one Booster Gold survives Convergence, who should it be? (65 votes)
The last time DC ran 8 weeks of constant, weekly crossovers was 1988's Millennium. I distinctly remember the clerk at my Local Comic Shop at the time moaning that he'd just recovered from buying all the Crisis tie-ins when Millennium started.
Back then, most of the crossover titles cost about $1. Today, they are all $4. That's an increase twice the rate of inflation! (So much for holding that line at $2.99, eh, DC?) I hope that guy working in the comic shop back then has gotten a raise or two over the years, or Convergence is going to put him in the poor house.

New Old Release: JL3K The Camelot War
Tired of Convergence yet?
This week we get Ralph Dibny and Kelly Jones on Swamp Thing and a return of the worst Outsiders ever. But it doesn't look like we'll be getting any Booster Gold. Even Convergence: Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes won't include our hero, despite the fact that we know Booster and the Legion will be tangling in Booster's own title launching next week.
From an interview at comicbook.com this past February:
Russ Burlingame: We've seen that Booster Gold will run afoul of Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes in his second issue. Will we see any of that in your own title?
Stuart Moore: No, that takes place before our story.
Don't despair, Booster fans. There will be some Booster on the rack this week. It just won't be new.
Enter Justice League 3000 Volume 2: The Camelot War, which includes the arrival of classic Blue and Gold in the 30th century. Of course you bought those issues when they were new, but now you can buy them again without breaking your floppies out of their mylar. At $14.99, this book is collectively cheaper than the individual issues were, so there's an incentive here for those of you who were trade-waiting.
Buy it or not. Skeets doesn't care.

Sometimes Grim and Gritty Looks Great
Big time Booster booster Keith Callbeck recently tweeted his latest commission acquisition:
That's Booster Gold by Jae Lee, and it looks great. That's a comic book I would buy. Congratulations, Keith!
You can see more of Callbeck's commissions and convention hijinks (and pics of his enviable Booster Cave) as @CubReporterK on Twitter.com.
