Holy Matrimony, Booster Gold

Personally, I think you should never give someone money just because they've hired a celebrity spokesperson. Unless that spokesperson is Booster Gold.

Last week's poll question: Would you give money to a charity just because Booster Gold endorsed it? (40 votes)

Would you give money to a charity just because Booster Gold endorsed it?

Yesterday, Russ Burlingame pulled the scab off a wound when he reported at ComicBook.com that Dan Jurgens still refuses to divulge his plans for the long cancelled Booster Gold Volume 2.

"I always look at it and say there's going to be a chance one day, someday somehow, to give those answers."
-- Dan Jurgens

We've only been waiting 4 years since Flashpoint ended to learn who Black Beetle is or who Booster Gold marries. It took about 9 years to see what Dirk Davis did with Booster's fortune after Millennium, and about 20 to see Booster reunited with his dead sister. Compared to those numbers, 4 years is the blink of an eye. A very, very slow blink.

To pass the time, let's reinvestigate who we think the likely suspects are to marry Booster Gold. I'm sure you remember Trixie Collins, and no doubt you're familiar with Godiva and Liri Lee, but you may have forgotten time traveler Sondra Crain or Flashpoint damsel-in-distress Alexandra Gianopoulos.

Maxwell Lord in Supergirl

This week's Supergirl episode included the introduction of a new character, an entrepreneur named Maxwell Lord. I wonder who that could be?

No, seriously. What is Maxwell Lord doing playing low rent Lex Luther to Supergirl? Maxwell Lord belongs to Booster Gold!

Lord first introduced Booster to the Justice League. Lord killed Booster's best friend. Lord came back from the dead and spent another year taunting Booster Gold. That's some history!

What kind of relationship do Lord and Supergirl have? She's was never a member of the Justice League International. Have they ever even appeared together in the same comic?

I like CBS's Supergirl. I like the character of Maxwell Lord. I'm just bitter that Max gets a recurring role on television, and he didn't bring Booster Gold along with him.

You Like Me, You Really Like Me

Booster Gold selected August 21, 1985, to make his public debut because he knew that was the day an assassin would make an attempt on the life of United States President Ronald Reagan. But what if Booster had chosen another red-letter day in American presidential history to make his debut?

Before election day, November 2, 1948, incumbent president Harry Truman was polling far behind his challenger, Thomas Dewey. No one outside of Truman's camp thought the President could pull out a second term. So remote were Truman's chances, that the Chicago Daily Tribune printed a headline declaring Dewey champion before the results were in.

Truman Defeats Dewey on November 2, 1948

Booster Gold could have earned a friend in high office and the general public alike if he'd arrived from the future and publicly thrown his support behind Truman, whose campaign against a "Do Nothing Congress" resonated with voters.

Of course, Truman's second term saw the Soviets get the Bomb, the war in Korean, McCarthy's Red Scare, and the Kefauver Committee against organized crime in America. Worse, 1948 saw the emergence of Fredric Wertham's campaign against super heroes. Maybe Booster decided that was all just too much trouble for one hero.

Or maybe a history student like Booster Gold preferred to make his debut closer to the dawn of the 90s, when technology would begin an unprecedented leap forward. It would be awfully hard for a guy with a robot sidekick to live in an era of vacuum tubes.

Booster Gold Film Version Costume

It's too late to order for tomorrow's holiday, but if you're planning ahead for next year, know that Herostime.com is now offering a new Booster Gold "Film Version" costume.

Hmm. A female model for the "film version" Booster Gold? Do they know something we don't know?

(Disclaimer: I do not think they know something we don't know. This zentai costume appears to be based on the stylings of Booster's leather costume from Smallville. And it's not the first time that we've seen "film" versions of Booster's costume. Check out this post from 2012.)

Enjoy your Halloween.
