Last week's announcement of Justice League Action reminds us that it's been ten years since Justice League Unlimited went off the air. To celebrate this sad anniversary, Darren Bonthuys at lazygamer.net has listed his ten episodes that exemplify why JLU is the model that all future superhero cartoons should emulate. Included in his list is what is arguably Booster Gold's finest hour: "The Greatest Story Never Told."

Choosing to be a superhero, is an inherently noble act. Donning a mask, risking your life and fighting a neverending battle is a thankless task which doesn't exactly pay the bills. And then there's Booster Gold. Unlike heroes who are motivated solely by grief or a better nature, Booster Gold is in it for the fame.

I don't agree with Bonthuys entire list (frankly, I consider "Clash" to be a terrible episode), but I can't deny that "The Greatest Story Never Told" is my favorite of the series. In showcasing the story of a side-lined b-list hero, the episode demonstrates that every character can be interesting and worthwhile. Knowing Booster Gold is on crowd control makes the entire DC Universe more interesting.

Of course, we can't discuss this show without offering a special thank you to episode writer Andrew Kreisberg. That the person responsible for Booster's best television moment is the same man partially responsible for shepherding the live-action DC Universe remains encouraging. At the very least, Kreisberg "gets" Booster Gold, and it seems likely that whenever Booster Gold does return to the small screen, he'll be exactly the character we expect him to be.

Meanwhile, how will Booster Gold's appearances on Justice League Action stand up against "The Greatest Story Never Told"? Let's hope for the best.

After I had already posted on Friday, DCComics.com announced the upcoming animated Justice League Action for Cartoon Network. It's great that we'll be getting a new Justice League cartoon, but the news gets better. From their release:

Along with [Kevin] Conroy [as Batman], Cartoon Network have announced that several other beloved DC Animated voice actors will be contributing to the series, including Mark Hamill as the Joker (!!!), James Woods as Lex Luthor, Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold and much more.

What a great way to start February, huh?

We've known Warner Brothers had been working on a new Justice League series since at least September, but DC's announcement is the first indication that Booster Gold would be playing any part — by Batman: Brave and the Bold's Batman, no less!

No news yet on when this series will be aired (there's no telling with Cartoon Network), so we'll have to stay tuned for more news.

(And don't forget: whenever there's breaking Booster Gold news, it will probably be discussed in the Boosterrific Forum before I get it onto the front page. News cycles may move fast in the 21st century, but I still work at 20th-century speeds.)

Craig Byrne interviewed Arthur Darvill, television's Rip Hunter, about his take on the character. Naturally, Booster Gold came up.

Byrne: On the show, do we have a sense or any clues as to who Rip Hunter's parents are?

Darvill: I don't know how far they've planned. I've obviously read the comics and know the deal of who his parents are and all of that. As with all of these shows, I don't know how true they're going to stick to it or if they're gonna bring that in later on or anything. Hopefully we've got a long time to go on the show.

Byrne: A lot of actors we've talked to who are playing beloved comic book characters sometimes say, "Oh, I don't want to read the comic books because I want to put my own spin on it." But you're a fan of the comics. Do you think that's brought something special to the role?

Darvill: Oh, totally. I'm obviously going to put my own spin on it cause that's my job and that's what I enjoy doing. I get the idea of not looking at it, but I think for me, Rip's been depicted in such different ways through the history of the comics — and actually none of them are close to how I'm playing him.

My key into him was reading the Vanishing Point comic, which I like. It made me realize I can make him stronger than I thought he was. He has that kind of action-adventure thing and he can be a leader, which I'm really interested in. I like the way he's got Superman and Booster Gold there to contend with, yet he totally leads the way. I think that shows he can stand up for himself.
