Booster Gold as The Traveler

TVLine.com has reported a casting call for the upcoming Arrow/Flash spin-off. Included in the list of "mystery" characters is the description of someone who might be familiar to Boosterrific visitors:

"THE TRAVELER" : Described as a Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm, this hero hails from the future, and has journeyed back in time on a secret mission. His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.

TVLine (and just about everyone else on the Internet, including our pal Russ Burlingame) thinks this is most likely Rip Hunter. Of course, The DC Universe has no shortage of time travelers, so it could just as easily be Waverider or the Time Trapper or Valor. But it just might be Booster Gold.

Whoever it turns out to be, The CW sure has our attention. In the meantime, if you have a theory, I invite you to join the conversation in the Boosterrific Forum.

What Does It Take to Get Some Closure?

Some disappointing news from Russ Burlingame's Friday interview with Dan Jurgens about Convergence: Booster Gold:

Burlingame:Any chance we'll be seeing [Booster Gold] as Futures End starts to wind down? He was on the poster and people thought he'd be a big part of the book.

Jurgens: The poster really related to the Five Year Later book, which is obviously part of the set-up for Convergence. You won't see him in Futures End, I'm afraid. We definitely have a big enough cast as is!

Burlingame: Any chance we'll get some closure on stuff from Volume 2, like the identity of the Black Beetle or Booster finding out who his son is?

Jurgens:I don't know that would be fair to the readers as that's getting to be a long time ago. We really had a minimal number of pages and much larger story that had to be dealt with first.

Does that mean that we'll never get an official reveal on the Black Beetle's identity? Pooh.

As always, I recommend that you read the rest of the interview at ComicBook.com.

Zoinks!

Booster booster Gio3432 was shopping for comics for his 3 year old, and look what he found in the back pages of this week's Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #9:

© DC Comics

This primer on Booster Gold is part of a two-page spread introducing new readers to the heroes and villains of the DC Universe. (Gorilla Grodd is on the facing page.) Says Gio:

Scooby-doo teamed up with Superman and a Booster Gold appearance! My Kid is going to have extremely high expectations of comics from this point on.

Let this be a lesson to all of us. Keep your eyes pealed, because you never know where you might find a little bit of Gold!

DC Lied to Us in the Solicitation

Funny how DC promising to publish books with long-missing characters has so many people looking to buy a bunch of comics again. It's just like 1994's Zero Hour crossover all over again!

Last week's poll question: How many of the 40 Convergence tie-in mini-series are you planning to buy? (49 votes)

How many of the 40 Convergence tie-in mini-series are you planning to buy?

First Booster shows up on the covers of Smallville and Futures End without appearing inside, and now he's wrongly solicited as appearing in Justice League 3000 #15. It's getting where I probably shouldn't give my Local Comic Shop any money until after I've read the books!

New Release: Justice League 3000 #15

This is your monthly reminder that Justice League 3000 is in stores today. The solicitation text begs us to buy it.

Beetle and Booster! Fire and Ice! The Injustice League (no, not that one — this is a different one)! Plus, the stuff that's on the cover! C'mon, people! We're bending over backward here! Pick up this comic before it's too late!

Breaking out the hard sell, I see. I will take this opportunity to point out that sales for the title got a boost in the issue that was mostly devoted to Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, (#12) and have slid some in the time since. I'm no one to tell Keith Giffen or J.M. Dematteis how to write a comic book, but I do humbly suggest that more Booster Gold and Blue Beetle might be a good thing.

You can find a preview for the issue at ComicBook.com.

(Footnote: I find it amusing that DCComics.com appears to be sabotaging their own title: the web page for this book promotes the wrong Blue Beetle in this issue. Their "starring" links ignore Fire and Ice and link visitors to the bio for Jaime Reyes, who is very unlikely to be along for this ride.)

Buy this issue and make Skeets (who is also very unlikely to appear in this issue) happy.

UPDATE 2015-03-05: THEY LIED TO US. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle DO NOT appear in this issue. Sorry.
