FallCon!

If last week's New York Comic Con didn't wear you out, consider checking out FallCon 2010 from 10AM to 4PM tomorrow at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Fallcon is already superior to New York Comic Con simply because Minnesota native, Booster Gold-creator, and all-around-great-guy Dan Jurgens is on the guest list. I'll take quality over quantity any day.

Look, a CD! DC 75: The Music of DC Comics

I just picked up The Music of DC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection cd. I open the case for the first time to put the cd in my computer's cup holder, and lo and behold, who do I find looking up at me from the back tray card under the cd but the Corporate Crusader and all of his DC pals.

The Mustic of SC Comics: 75th Anniversary Collection © DC Comics

DC's 75th anniversary, indeed! Jemm, Son of Saturn, meet Catman! I bought the cd for the music, but I'm in love with it for the interior art.

What's not to like about any cd that comes with its own comic artist credits? Pencils: Adam Dekracker, Brett Breeding, Ryan Sook, Jon Bogdanove, Ian Churchill, Craig Hamilton, Jonboy Meyers, Matthe Clark, Tom Derrinick, Mike McKone, Admira Wijayai. Inks: Brett Breeding, Ryan Sook, Joe Rubenstein. Colors: Raul Trevino, Dave McCaig, Ryan Kinnard, Richard Horie.

Hard core DC junkies may recognize this image as very similar to one that circulated a few months ago as a promotional image for Warner Brothers Consumer Products. There have been a few changes from that image, including but not limited to Booster Gold moving to a more prominent position behind Batman (location, location, location!) and Aquaman being re-drawn. For more details on the original, head over to the archive at onceuponageek.com.

Mild-Mannered Smart Phone

In my regular trolling of the internet yesterday, I was shocked to discover an article at TechNewsWorld.com by Rob Enderle including the following analogy:

The iPhone is magic, wonderful, magnificent. It is presented much like a costumed hero, and you're asked not to look behind the costume or the hype at problems with its antenna, its yellowing display, or, most recently, its very fragile glass case.

Don't get me wrong, with all of this it is still rated as one of the best superphones (we call them smartphones) in the market, but to get there it needs a costume (case) and a lot of Apple magic. If I were to connect it to a Superhero, Booster Gold with a better PR manager comes to mind.

I was really looking forward to Booster Gold's appearance on Smallville as a chance to introduce the character to a mass mainstream audience that had never met the character. But if Booster Gold is well-known enough to be the super-hero of choice in a Rob Enderle article about cellphones, then maybe Michael Jon Carter has a higher Q rating than I thought.

The entire article, wherein Enderle compares the Windows 7 Phone to Superman and Microsoft management to Doomsday, can be found here.

News from NYCC

Not a lot of Booster Gold news from this past weekend's New York Comic Con other than the tease that Booster Gold will be "from the future" on Smallville. That may not seem like much, but given Smallville's track record of reinventing DC characters, I guess we should be thankful for the small things.
