This Day in History: Old Time Justice
Few comics publishers have much new to offer today, the first New Comic Day after Christmas and the final New Comic Day of the year. DC in particular is offering only reprints. That wasn't always the case.
DC's Elseworlds weird western tale Justice Riders was released 22 years ago today. I reread it yesterday, and I have to say that it stands up rather well.
As with most westerns, the premise is rather simple: Sheriff Diana Prince gathers a posse of men with unusual talents to hunt down the man who destroyed her town, a robber baron by the name of Maxwell Lord. Booster Gold earns his way onto the team thanks to his unusually potent firepower created by a familiar, gifted inventor.
Justice Riders (1996) story by Chuck Dixon; art by J.H. Williams III, Mick Gray, Lee Loughridge; letters by Bill Oakley
Everyone who has ever seen a John Wayne western can probably imagine how this plays out. The fun isn't so much the destination but how the story gets there and, for comics geeks, how it ties to post-Zero Hour DCU continuity. That and the amazing art by J.H. Williams III.
If you can't find anything else to buy at your Local Comic Shop today, consider treating yourself to Justice Riders for $1.99 at Comixology.com.

No Time for Flash
Booster booster Jackson Williams was reading The Flash #46 and caught this sequence of panels.
The Flash #46, words by Johsua Williamson; art by Scott Kolins, Luis Guerrero
This issue of The Flash was released the week before Batman #47, but the former sure looks like it refers to the latter's meeting between Batman, Catwoman, and Booster Gold. (Which was, by the way, the first time that Booster Gold and Catwoman have ever met on panel.)
Thanks for the update, Jackson.

31 Years of Booster Gold
Monday, Kieran Shiach of ComicsAlliance.com recapped Booster Gold's first appearance. His article is very good and mostly accurate. His only mistake is saying that Booster Gold #1 was first released on November 2, 1986. It wasn't.
For the record, Booster Gold #1 was released to comics specialty shops (the emerging "direct market") on October 29, 1985. We know it's true because Dan Jurgens says so.
But that one little nitpick aside, it's great to see Comics Alliance celebrating our hero. Just one more things to give thanks for this week.

406 Days and Counting
Today is Wednesday, and just like every other Wednesday for the past 58 weeks, there will be no new Booster Gold comic books at your Local Comic Shop.
Over the weekend, Russell Burlingame explored the questions of why this has happened and how it can be fixed in an article for ComicBook.com.
Burlingame isn't alone in wondering whatever happened to Booster Gold. Last week, Kieran Shiach of ComicsAlliance listed Booster Gold as the number one DC property in need of a new comic. I agree!
Here's hoping we'll see our hero again before DC Comics has it's next reboot. (Although, at the rate they're going, even that will be sooner rather than later.) Booster Gold is too good a hero to leave on the sidelines for long.

A Different Kind of Rainbow Raider
Brian McLachlan and Aaron Hanson have broken down the combinations of primary color pairings to discuss the color theory of how they affect our perception of heroes. Booster Gold, in his "confident" blue and "energetic" yellow, is included among the examples.
You can find the whole article at ComicAlliance.com. I thought it was worth the read. (If you do review it, keep in mind that Dan Jurgens decided on Booster's color scheme before finalizing any other costume details.)
