What to Make of This?

Discovered this week: the website of Regal Cinemas, a theater chain with almost 600 locations worldwide, now has a page for Booster Gold the movie.

Regal Cinemas

MOVIE INFO & CAST

DIRECTOR: Greg Berlanti
WRITER: Dan Jurgens, Zack Stentz
RUNTIME: 2hr 40m

SYNOPSIS
Booster Gold is a superhero from the 25th century and travelled back to the 20th century to become rich and famous

Given that they haven't even started filming, much less editing, how in the world do they know it's going to be 2 hours and 40 minutes long? (Please, please, Warner Bros., don't let any Booster Gold movie run longer than 120 minutes, tops. If you can't tell your story in two hours, make it a television show!)

I'm pretty sure this isn't official. Presumably, Regal Cinemas is pulling this data from IMDB.com, which has identical details down to the same "sky-seller.com" watermarked pic of Smallville's Eric Martsolf, who, at the age of 46, is unlikely to be playing Booster on the big screen.

There hasn't been much news out of Warner about when, if ever, we'll be seeing that Booster Gold project Berlanti has been working on for the better part of a decade. The studio still has holes in its release schedule, so late 2019 remains a possibility. We'll see.

Booster Gold Movie Still in the Works

If you watched The Flash on Tuesday, you might have recognized its similarity to Booster Gold Volume 1, #18. (Russ Burlingame covered the details for Comicbook.com). In what I'm sure was completely unrelated news, after the episode aired, writer Zack Stentz announced on Twitter that he was leaving the show.

Naturally, this announcement stirred up the show's hardcore fans. Had Stentz been fired by Flash producer Greg Berlanti? Was there trouble behind the scenes?

Stentz headed off any potential gossip in a follow-up tweet.

Everything was totally amicable, I'm still writing Booster Gold for Greg & company, & deeply love the writers, cast, & crew. -- @musezack 1 Feb 2017

Flash fans might be sad to see Stentz go, but Booster Gold fans have to be bouncing with joy knowing that work continues towards the Booster Gold movie.

Godspeed, Zack!

Year in Review 2016: Number 2

Coming in second on our year-end hit parade was the Boosterrific.com post on May 13 confirming that the long rumored Booster Gold movie finally had a writer.

Said Greg Berlanti (to the Hollywood Reporter):

I'm attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he's writing the script now. I'd probably direct that, or I would want to.

We haven't heard much since, but that's how the movie business works. We'll keep watching and waiting.

The countdown wraps up on Friday with the most visited post of the year.

Booster Gold Movie to Stand Alone

On Wednesday, Abraham Riesman reported the following for Vulture.com:

"As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds," [Greg] Berlanti said when asked if the movie would be part of the DC Extended Universe that already includes Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad .... "It'd be a separate thing."

Berlanti also indicated that the movie is an extension of the Booster Gold TV show abandoned by the SyFy network in 2012. He gives credit to Geoff Johns for rolling that canceled project into a theatrical movie. Johns recently told the Wall Street Journal that he is trying to make the cinematic DC Universe less "gritty and dark." (I think I owe Geoff Johns a drink.)

Back to the original topic: the Booster Gold movie is currently planned to be a stand-alone story with no connection to the larger Warner Brothers cinematic DC Universe. Whether you think that is good news or bad news probably depends on whether you're one of the people who helped Batman v Superman make $872 million.

Let's find out where Booster boosters stand.

This week's poll question: How do you feel about the Booster Gold movie not taking place in the Warner Bros DC Extended Universe? Please visit the Boosterrific Polls page to view results for this week's poll.

Booster Gold Movie Has New Writer?

There can be no more doubt about whether Warner Brothers is working on a Booster Gold movie. Yesterday, in an interview with Lacey Rose of the Hollywood Reporter, Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Greg Berlanti had this to say:

I'm attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he's writing the script now. I'd probably direct that, or I would want to.

Zack Stentz is perhaps better known as the writer of Thor and the new Power Rangers movie. I'm disappointed that Berlanti's associate Andrew Kreisberg, writer of Justice League Unlimited's "The Greatest Story Never Told" and SyFy's 2011 undeveloped Booster Gold television show, appears to be off the project, but I look forward to Stentz's take on our favorite hero.

(This interview confirms information first revealed earlier this week by birthmoviesdeath.com.)
