New Releases: DCU Online Legends #22

Morgenstern spotted Booster Gold in the preview pages DC teased on The Source for today's release of DC Universe Online Legends #22. The events of this series are out of continuity (taking place in an alternate timeline) as they fill in the back-story for the DC Universe Online video game.

It was only a matter of time before Booster appeared in this series. He plays a significant role in the game as the tour guide for Metropolis and Gotham cities, leading players to landmarks across the DCU. Recording those sessions must have kept the Corporate Crusader too busy to participate in saving this alternate world until now.

The game is now free to play on your PC, and can be downloaded from dcuniverseonline.com. However, the comic will cost you $2.99, whether you buy a floppy copy in your Local Comic Shop or a digital copy online at Comixology.com/DC_Comics.

Buy this comic and make the DC Universe Online version of Skeets happy.

Play DC Universe Online for Free

This is not breaking news, but DC Universe Online is now free to play, no longer requiring a monthly subscription. If you've previously passed on the opportunity to interact with Booster Gold inside the DC Universe, you are running out of excuses.

The above video is the Booster Gold boss battle of the game's HIVE Duo mission. If you just want to see Booster and Skeets, skip to about the 3:30 mark. If you want to fight Booster Gold yourself, play DC Universe Online.

New Releases: DC Retroactive: Justice League

Just in time for the unveiling of the DCnU and the first post-Flashpoint Justice League next week, today DC Comics releases DC Retroactive: Justice League America - the '90s, a look back at the first Justice League of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era. Maybe you can't go home again, but you can pay $4.99 for a new look at your old scrapbooks.

Also on today's docket of nostalgic releases is the hardcover collected edition of DC Universe: Legacies. While DC Universe: Legacies is a blueprint of revisionist history for the 75-year-old DC Universe in 2010, it remains to be seen how much of the continuity it reinvents will be maintained after Flashpoint concludes next week.

Pick up your copies and make Skeets happy.

One Week Until Smallville

Had you heard that the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television essentially banned all television shows involving time travel this month? It just so happens that the Smallville episode "Booster" is scheduled to air one week from today, at 8:00 PM EDT on the CW Network. Certainly this can't be a coincidence.

DC Universe Online

The Chinese government must be concerned about the influence that Capitalistic Booster Gold could have on their Communistic citizens. No, don't look, China! You might like what you see! (Heaven forbid that you should grab a bite at a Big Belly Burger and wash that down with a Soder Cola!) Fortunately for us Americans, the Federal Communication Commision doesn't care what we watch so long as there are no wardrobe malfunctions. Remember to keep those goggles on, Booster!

UPDATE: Kevin and Morgenstern have noticed someone familiar in the latest Smallville promo.

Thanks, guys. Less than 7 days and counting.

The Voice of Booster Gold

Those of you who have played DC Universe Online are already very familiar with this, but I thought the rest of you deserved to hear the voice of Gold.

That's Tracy W. Bush -- only the second third person to give official voice to Booster Gold after Tom Everett Scott and David Coyne (see comments below for details) -- as Booster Gold from one of the many, many Booster Gold kiosks littered throughout Metropolis and Gotham City. This sample is only the tip of the iceberg; Booster is much more verbose and far funnier in most of his DC Universe Online sound bites.

Note: if you cannot see the audio player, you do not have Adobe Flash Player installed in your browser.
