Booster Gold Appears in a Comic Again!

I received an email yesterday alerting me to this:

© DC Comics

Yes, that is Booster Gold, and yes, that is Ted Kord. Believe it or not, Skeets is in there, too. All in a DC comic book. Will wonders never cease?

This panel can be found in Injustice 2 "Chapter 9", now available on Comixology.com. Injustice 2 does not take place in the standard DCnrU but in the dystopian parallel universe as seen in the Injustice series of video games. (It's not a nice place to live. Superman is a jerk.)

Injustice 2 is a digital-first title, so chapters are available online before they are released as comics. This gives you two ways to buy. "Chapter 9" and "Chapter 10" (due next week) both cost just 99¢ on Comixology. Alternately, the two chapters will be collected into the printed floppy Injustice 2 #5, coming to your Local Comic Shop on July 5 for $2.99.

Thanks for the tip, jayroc22! (Also thanks to Spencer, who tried to notify me on Facebook. Sorry I didn't see your message sooner.)

Introducing the Silver and Gold Podcast

Today the Captain Atom blog (CaptainAtomBlog.com) debuts its new "Silver and Gold Podcast" covering the original 1980s runs of DC Comics' Captain Atom and Booster Gold series.

It's a natural fit: the two characters, both new to the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe and both something other than what they publicly pretended to be, soon found themselves in the Justice League International. They would cross-over into each other's series and develop a relationship that would last through the "extreme" 1990s and beyond.

You can find the podcast at SoundCloud.com.

And if listening to talk about Booster and the good Captain should whet your appetite for more comics, know that through the end of the month, DC Comics is having a sale — up to 70% off — on digital trades, including collections of Booster Gold and Captain Atom. You can find those deals at Comixology.com. (But go listen to the podcast first!)

Booster Gold Volume 1 Comes to Comixology

Russ Burlingame informs us via ComicBook.com that the first two issues of Booster Gold Volume 1 are now available on Comixology.com. In Full Color!

When they were first released back in 1986, these issues had a cover price of 75¢. Adjusting for inflation, that's $1.63 in 2015 money. So why is Comixology charging $1.99 each when all the hard work was done and paid for 30 years ago? Hopefully the answer is because they want to back up a truckload of royalty payments to creator Dan Jurgens' mailbox.

Of course, $1.99 looks like a great price compared to some speculators, who are asking $50 or more for original printings of that first issue. Most comics readers probably don't want to have to choose between reading more about Booster Gold or eating lunch for a week.

So whether you're a Grumpy Old Man like me or a hip millennial who prefers her comics on the go, a $1.99 comic book is a steal in the year 2015. So head over to Comixology.com and get yourself a digital copy of the classic debut of history's greatest hero. Booster Gold would want you to.

(Thanks to the ever alert Morgenstern for calling this to my attention.)

Booster Gold Is Not In There

I had wanted to start the week covering Booster Gold's activities in the latest digital chapter of Smallville: Continuity #2. Too bad Booster isn't in it.

That's right: despite appearing on the digital cover for both the first two chapters of Smallville: Continuity, our Golden Guardian hasn't so much as been mentioned on the virtual pages within. Talk about bait and switch!

Traditionally, printed editions of Smallville Season 11 have used the cover representing the three digital chapters collected therein. We can therefore assume that Cat Stagg's cover to Smallville: Continuity #1 through #3 will likely be the cover on Smallville Season 11: Continuity #1 when it is released in December.

That means that Booster Gold will have to be in chapter 3, right? I guess we'll find out when the issue becomes available on Comixology.com this Friday?
