Fight for the Future

Elvis or the Beatles? Coke or Pepsi? Batman or Superman? There can be only one!

Last week's poll question: Which Justice Leaguer would make the better mentor/role model for Booster Gold? (44 votes)

Which Justice Leaguer would make the better mentor/role model for Booster Gold?

Earlier this week, I was thinking that Booster Gold would be playing a trivial part at best in the upcoming "Trinity War" event. But events in this week's Justice League of America have me thinking twice. What's your opinion?

Choosing Sides

I think any character appearing in print for 75 consecutive years deserves his own movie.

Last week's poll question: Are you excited to see Man of Steel? (38 votes)

Are you excited to see Man of Steel?

Because both Batman and Superman are seen in the first telling of Booster's origin story in Booster Gold, volume 1, #6, I've often wondered whether Booster Gold considers either Batman or Superman as his primary inspiration. Superman is powerful and noble; Batman careful and driven. What do you think?

It's Superman! The Adventures of Superman #476

Since Booster Gold had saved Superman's life in their last co-adventure, it was only fair that Superman return the favor when a murdering time-traveler came hunting Booster Gold. (That sort of thing happens all the time in Metropolis.)

Booster's past/future deeds began catching up with him when the Linear Man seized and tortured Skeets in Adventures of Superman #476. Fortunately for Booster, Superman was ready and willing to get involved. Unfortunately for Superman, some forces of nature are best left unchallenged.

For his trouble, Superman found himself amnesic and lost, indiscriminately bouncing from era to era through time. In the present, Booster promised Lois Lane that he would seek out help for Superman, but readers never saw him follow through.

Did Booster ever contact Kilowog as promised? It is hard to imagine that Booster wouldn't keep his word, even though Superman did ultimately find his way home without Booster's assistance. Sometimes, it really is the thought that counts.

X-Ray Vision Not Required

I don't often encounter fan art of Booster Gold that I don't like. It's hard to make Booster Gold look bad.

Last week's poll question: What styles of Booster Gold art do you most prefer seeing? (40 votes)

What styles of Booster Gold art do you most prefer seeing?

So, who's ready for some big screen Superman? If you're headed to the movies, keep your eyes out for Blaze Comics and other DC Universe Easter eggs!

It's a Plane! Action Comics #594

Booster Gold was easily defeated when he and Superman fought it out in Booster Gold, volume 1, #7, but only because of the interference of Skeets. (Sadly, it won't prove to be the last time that Skeets betrays Booster. That little turncoat!) With Skeets nowhere to be seen, things went far better for Booster in the rematch in Action Comics #594.

Maybe it was the unexpected death of Goldstar or trouble fitting in with the Justice League. Why else was Booster Gold suddenly acting cruelly to the citizens of Metropolis? As Superman had tried to teach Booster when last they met, not all that glisters is gold. In this case, quite literally.

Even Superman proved no match for this new, vicious Booster Gold. Once Booster Gold had finally beaten the Man of Steel, there was only one hero would could rescue him. That one hero, naturally, was Booster Gold.

It turns out in Booster Gold, volume 1, #23, that Lex Luthor had arranged for a Booster Gold impostor to defeat Superman with Kryptonite. Thanks to the timely intervention of the one true Corporate Crusader, Superman lived to fight another day. That put Superman in Booster's debt, a shared adventure that the Man of Tomorrow would probably prefer to forget.
