Someone on The Flash Must be Booster Gold

Yesterday at ComicBook.com, Russ Burlingame noted a striking similarity between The Flash's mysterious villain Eddie Thawne and Booster Gold:

When [Harrison] Wells tells [Eddie] Thawne that he's "the only Thawne to be all but forgotten by history," it reminded me of the following quote about time-traveling superhero Booster Gold:

"No one is sure of the exact moment the Carter Family began the amazing Time Masters, but it's thought to have dated back to at least the early 21st Century. From that moment on, the members of the Carter Family took on the responsibility of policing and protecting all of history against those that would exploit it. There was only one 'black sheep' of the Carter Family in the last two thousand years. A young man from the 25th Century who went by the name 'Booster Gold.' He is the only documented Carter to have ever been a fraud, a failure and a fool. That's why historians like myself find it remarkable that in all recorded images, Booster Gold had a smile on his face. Perhaps he was stupid as well."

...

Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that Rick Cosnett's character is secretly Booster Gold (although that would be awesome). What I am saying is that such a similar sentiment, expressed in a project with which [Executive Producer Geoff] Johns is involved and relating to a character who is thus far competent, likable and good at his job, seems like it could be a hint.

That quote comes from Booster Gold #1,000,000, which was written by Geoff Johns. Is Johns plagiarizing his own work?

You may remember that we once thought that Wells might be Booster, but we've since learned conclusively that he's Professor Zoom Reverse-Flash so I stopped watching. But if they secretly added Booster Gold to the cast as another character, I guess I'd tune back in!

I recommend that you visit ComicBook.com to read Burlingame's full argument and decide for yourself it you think that Eddie Thrawne is secretly Booster Gold.

What Does It Take to Get Some Closure?

Some disappointing news from Russ Burlingame's Friday interview with Dan Jurgens about Convergence: Booster Gold:

Burlingame:Any chance we'll be seeing [Booster Gold] as Futures End starts to wind down? He was on the poster and people thought he'd be a big part of the book.

Jurgens: The poster really related to the Five Year Later book, which is obviously part of the set-up for Convergence. You won't see him in Futures End, I'm afraid. We definitely have a big enough cast as is!

Burlingame: Any chance we'll get some closure on stuff from Volume 2, like the identity of the Black Beetle or Booster finding out who his son is?

Jurgens:I don't know that would be fair to the readers as that's getting to be a long time ago. We really had a minimal number of pages and much larger story that had to be dealt with first.

Does that mean that we'll never get an official reveal on the Black Beetle's identity? Pooh.

As always, I recommend that you read the rest of the interview at ComicBook.com.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle in Convergence

While we can continue to debate what sort of "pivotal" role Booster Gold might be playing in Convergence, it certainly looks like we should expect to see him show up in Convergence: Justice League International.

Friday, Russ Burlingame put the question to Ron Marz (Mr. Pivotal himself) answered:

Burlingame: [I]s the fact that we already have a minimum of two Boosters running around being Time Masters limiting to what you can do with him [in Convergence Justice League International]?

Marz: Booster's dance card is pretty full in Convergence, but I think we'll find a way to sneak him in there. Everybody wants a Booster and Beetle moment.

We sure do! And it looks like we're going to get what we want!

You can find the whole conversation at ComicBook.com. (Thanks, Russ!)

The Fans Have Spoken

Tom Everett Scott's Booster Gold is going to be a pretty high bar for any future actors to hurdle.

Last week's poll question: ( votes)

After Kevin Maguire's recent fan casting, there's been some discussion in the Boosterrific Forum about who might play Booster when he returns to television (which as Russ Burlingame said at ComicBook.com earlier this week, may still happen in his own series).

UPDATE 2015-01-15: Tom Everett Scott appreciates his fans!

"@boosterrific: The Fans Have Spoken: @TomEScott is the best Booster Gold voice EVER bit.ly/1BwdU07" Thank you Booster Gold fans!!

You're welcome, Tom Everett Scott. (Now I wish I had a trophy to give him.)

Blue and Gold Converging

Over the weekend, Russ Burlingame of ComicBook.com uncovered a clue to Convergence on Dan DiDio's Facebook page.

© DC Comics

"Blue Beagle" and "Rooster Gold" animal heads aside — are we going to see a Blue and Gold crossover with Captain Carrot's Zoo Crew? — what's the rest of that picture from? Says detective Burlingame:

This also wouldn't be an old image that this reporter simply doesn't recognize. Ted Kord has only ever shared a single panel with this version of Booster Gold before -- in Futures End: Booster Gold. That issue saw Booster careening out of control through DC's Multiverse, before ending up "home" in the pre-Flashpoint DC Universe. The armored costume -- generally depicted with an A.R.G.U.S. emblem on it, although not here -- first appeared in the Justice League International Annual #1 in the New 52, meaning that Ted Kord was not a superhero and shared no history with Booster Gold when that look debuted.

So is this image teasing a Blue and Gold reunion in the mainstream DCnU? I guess we'll find out as we get closer to April 2015.
