Newsarama Tells Us Why We Like Booster Gold
As Russ Burlingame pointed out yesterday in the forums (you are reading the forums, aren't you?), Vaneta Rogers has a new article up at Newsarama discussing Booster Gold's enduring popularity. Rogers has interviewed Dan Jurgens, Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and Jeffery Katz -- writers for a combined 264 comic stories featuring Booster Gold! -- on their opinions about what makes Booster Gold great.
"I think it's pretty amazing that fans like him so much today because, if you think about the character and the way Dan [Jurgens] introduced him, he's a character you really shouldn't like, because he's so self-serving," said Keith Giffen, who has written the character several times during Booster's 25 years in comics. "And even though he's learning his lessons and growing as a person, there's still a little self-serving core in there. "But for some odd reason, fans just respond to it."
You can find the whole article, "Why They Endure: BOOSTER GOLD - the Self-Serving Superhero," at Newsarama.com.

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #41
Russ Burlingame assures me that his latest "Gold Exchange" column with J.M. DeMatteis should be up at Comic Related today. However, I don't yet have that link. And you can find that article here, where you can read tidbits like this:
CR: And how does that kind of thing affect the really ambitious way that you guys had looked at The Perforated Man?
JMD: We'll see what happens. A lot depends on what we do in our last issue. As I said, our plan was to make him a major player who could be the Doctor Doom to Booster's Fantastic Four.
[UPDATED 1:17PM]: Just a quick reminder from Russ Burlingame: This is basically J.M. DeMatteis' exit interview. Although he'll keep doing "Gold Exchange" interviews between now and May, but he talks about the run and his regrets about leaving early with me in the first-ever "Panel Discussions" podcast (found here).

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #40
If you didn't already notice Mr. Chaos' link in the forum (making this "Gold Exchange Tuesday" post somewhat redundant), Russ Burlingame has posted his latest "Gold Exchange" column at newsarama.com. In regards to questions about why Booster Gold #40 contained a re-telling of Booster's origin, writer J.M. DeMatteis is quoted:
"We were told this had to be a 'jump on' issue: That's why we did the recap."
DeMatteis also admits that the discrepancies in Booster's origin in that issue were intentional. Whether you believe him or not is up to you. (I run a website devoted to chronicling the most minute details of Booster Gold's adventures, and it didn't bother me. But I don't expect that fact to carry much weight with anyone else.)

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold #39
There was quite a drought of "Gold Exchange" columns for awhile there, and now it seems they are coming fast and furious. Russ Burlingame's latest "Gold Exchange" column was posted late last week at Newsarama.com. (Erin starlight has already commented on it here.) DeMatteis, like Jurgens before him, tends to give few concrete answers to Burlingame's questions, but his responses on how he views Booster Gold are enlightening. I can't ever have too much problem with anyone who clearly likes the character as much as he does.

Gold Exchange Updates
It's been a month and a half since the publication of an issue of Time Masters: Vanishing Point. So with Vanishing Point #5 finally coming out tomorrow (fingers crossed), perhaps you should take a minute and review issue #4 with the assistance of Dan Jurgens, courtesy of Russ Burlingame's "Gold Exchange" column at newsarama.com.
While you are over there, you may also want to catch up on Burlingame's "Gold Exchange" interview with J.M. DeMatteis about Booster Gold #38. It was a little late when Burlingame published it, and I'm referring to it later still because of recent technical difficulties. But better late than never, right?
