Professor Zoom Lives!

No Booster books this week from DC, but if you are visiting your Local Comic Shop, consider looking into The Flash #8. Written by Geoff Johns, the book has been advertised as a prelude to "Flashpoint," and will give the modern-age backstory for Professor Zoom. As you may recall, Booster Gold is staring Professor Zoom in the cliffhanger ending to Time Masters: Vanishing Point #5, a miniseries acting as a narrative bridge between "The Return of Bruce Wayne" and "Flashpoint." This book just might hint at the near future for Booster Gold.

News from NYCC

Not a lot of Booster Gold news from this past weekend's New York Comic Con other than the tease that Booster Gold will be "from the future" on Smallville. That may not seem like much, but given Smallville's track record of reinventing DC characters, I guess we should be thankful for the small things.

Gold Exchange: Booster Gold 35

Russ Burlingame's latest "Gold Exchange" interview with J.M. DeMatteis over Booster Gold #35 is up at Newsarama.com. If there is anything that writers don't like to talk about, it's the future. Jurgens has always been that way, and it is clear in this column that DeMatteis is the same. It's their right to tease us into buying their work, but it sure makes for some frustrating interviews.

I thought it odd that Burlingame would even question DeMatteis on his rationale for choosing Mister Miracle and Big Barda as guests in Booster Gold. After all, DeMatteis was the original scribe for the second volume of Mister Miracle as a spin-off of Justice League. Besides, Miracle and Barda still have a lot of fans and, in their current deceased state, very few comic book appearances these days. But I do appreciate Burlingame for being thorough, and I'm always glad to read his latest column.

By the way, Burlingame is soliciting YOUR opinion regarding Giffen & DeMatteis' controversial change of tone for Booster Gold. If you have something to say about either the tragedy of G/D sullying Geoff Johns' Booster Gold renaissance or the slapstick pie that G&D have thrown in the face of an otherwise stoic DC Universe, head over to this link here to find Burlingame's email address and send him a piece of your mind. (Not literally, please. That's gross.)

The Big Booster Gold News from Comic Con

On Sunday at the Smallville panel, Geoff Johns told the world that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (and Skeets!) will be on Smallville this season. (See a review of news from the panel at Newsarama.com.) Johns, in an interview with Comic Book Resources (viewable here), says that the Smallville Booster will be "very Booster-Gold-y." I have no idea what that means, but I expect good things.

Johns' affinity for the character is well documented. He will no doubt treat the character right. Johns-written episodes of Smallville have gotten good press and high viewership, so signs point to this episode having a good chance of introducing a whole new generation to the character of Booster Gold a la "The Greatest Story Never Told." What's the chance that Booster gets called "Green Lantern" at least once?

We'll keep an eye out for casting news and air dates for Booster's live-action debut.

No New Comics? Turn on the TV.

It seems like the first time in weeks that something Booster Gold related hasn't been released on New Comic Book Day. Of course, the new Batman Beyond series debuts today, but it is unlikely to contain any Booster Gold references. So what's a fan to do with no new comic books? Since Batman Beyond began as a television show, it seems natural to turn to television, of course.

Surely by now everyone has heard that Geoff Johns has a live action Blue Beetle in the works. Hearing reports that Geoff Johns tweeted the news would sound like an April Fool's joke if this weren't June. But here it is. If Jonah Hex can get a movie and Blue Beetle can get a pilot, could we be one step closer to a live action Booster Gold? Finally there's a good reason to buy an HDTV.

UPDATE: Screen caps of the Blue Beetle pilot are up at DC's The Source blog. The DC blog also has a bit of info on the new, black Aqualad created specifically for the planned Young Justice cartoon. TV is the place to be for DC! (I apologize for the previous sentence. I don't know what I was thinking.)
