Booster Gold Sells Out!

Remember 185 18 months ago, when it became very hard to find the issues of Booster Gold that tied-into Blackest Night? Well, welcome to Flashpoint. Love 'em or hate 'em, nothing sells books like a company-wide crossover.

DC announced via The Source on Friday that Booster Gold #44 has sold out and would be going back to press in coming weeks. Flashpoint #1 was released a week earlier and also sold out of its initial printing. The second printing of Flashpoint #1 is expected to be available on June 15. It is a safe bet that Booster Gold #44, 2nd printing, should be available no later than the following week.

Can't wait that long? May I suggest downloading the book from comixology.com? I'm pretty sure that they haven't yet sold out of pixels. [EDIT: Russ Burlingame points out in the comments below that my math sucks.]

Flashpoint Previews and Infographics

Yesterday DC announced in The Source that exclusive first looks at Flashpoint would be in USA Today. The first four pages of issue #1 are already online accompanying Brian Truitt's article here. I have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand, it's great that DC is getting some mainstream exposure for their summer event. You can't expect people to want to read comics unless they know about comics. So if a mainstream audience finds out that they exist, it can't be a bad thing for sales of Flashpoint and maybe even the tangentially related Booster Gold.

On the other hand, USA Today references comics like they are for people other than readers of USA Today. It sounds to me that USA Today is trivializing Flashpoint, and I would expect that works counter to what DC would want to be promoting.

I'm not new to this cycle of comic book event hype. I'm sure that condescending articles in USA Today are better than no articles at all. So I'll take what I can get, but I'll keep hoping for more.

News Flashpoint! (Sorry.)

Newsarama.com has posted Vaneta Roger's latest Flashpoint interview with Geoff Johns that includes a brief but interesting tidbit about Booster Gold.

Nrama: Solicitations have indicated that Booster Gold knows the Flashpoint world isn't his own. The concept behind an altered timeline goes right along with his series. Did you think of him all along as someone who could be involved in Flashpoint?

Johns: Yes, that was the one book that I knew would be tied into the mini-series. I knew [Booster Gold creator] Dan [Jurgens] was coming back [to write and draw Booster Gold], and I talked to him a lot about this story. It just felt like he's the natural person to have be involved in this, and that his book would just fit right along with it. If you're going to tie in anything, that's the book to tie-in.

Kudos to Rogers and Johns for managing to talk at length about the hows and whys of producing Flashpoint without giving much of the story away, maintaining the mystery of Flashpoint. You can read the whole article here.

Professor Zoom Lives!

No Booster books this week from DC, but if you are visiting your Local Comic Shop, consider looking into The Flash #8. Written by Geoff Johns, the book has been advertised as a prelude to "Flashpoint," and will give the modern-age backstory for Professor Zoom. As you may recall, Booster Gold is staring Professor Zoom in the cliffhanger ending to Time Masters: Vanishing Point #5, a miniseries acting as a narrative bridge between "The Return of Bruce Wayne" and "Flashpoint." This book just might hint at the near future for Booster Gold.

Flashpoint?

This article at CBR was written last week, and therefore probably qualifies as "old news." However, at the end, Dan Jurgens teases about Vanishing Point's hinted connection to Flashpoint, a potential event series coming from DC in 2011. While Jurgens tends to keep his teases very, very mysterious, what's the chance that Booster Gold will be playing a major role in a major DC event book in the near future? It's about time those pesky Green Lanterns took a back seat to a real hero!
