Even by comic book standards, "Booster Gold" is kind of a funny name. In the now-classic origin story in Booster Gold #9, Booster himself tells us that the name was an accident!

I always wondered if there was any real-world truth to this scene. Was Goldstar the original working title for Booster Gold? Did Booster Gold creator Dan Jurgens flub the pitch to DC executives, resulting in a "Booster Gold" comic instead of the intended "Goldstar" comic? For the answer, I went straight to the source and asked Jurgens directly. In a nutshell, the answer was "no." Here's what he said:

I was really hooked on "Booster Gold" right from the start. I liked the way it rolled off the tongue and, more importantly, touched on two aspects of his character:

1) "Booster" signifies both the concept of stealing something (to boost a ring, for example) as well as the the self-promoting aspect of it.

2) "Gold" clearly pertained to his quest for star status and money.

In other words-- it fit!

There's only one Booster Gold. Accept no imitations.

The back pages of 2008's Booster Gold: 52 Pick-Up hardback treated readers to Dan Jurgens' early sketches for Booster Gold's costume.

As odd as some of these are, none of these designs stray too far from the Booster Gold costume we've come to know and love. And there must be something right about Booster's costume because it has stood the test of time.

I asked Booster's creator Dan Jurgens how much credit he thought Booster's costume deserved in keeping the character at the forefront of the DC Universe for 30 years.

A lot. I really do believe it's a great look -- very tailored to the character, much in the same way Green Lantern's always seemed perfect for him.

That's our Booster Gold. Anything worth doing is worth doing in style.

Some disappointing news from Russ Burlingame's Friday interview with Dan Jurgens about Convergence: Booster Gold:

Burlingame:Any chance we'll be seeing [Booster Gold] as Futures End starts to wind down? He was on the poster and people thought he'd be a big part of the book.

Jurgens: The poster really related to the Five Year Later book, which is obviously part of the set-up for Convergence. You won't see him in Futures End, I'm afraid. We definitely have a big enough cast as is!

Burlingame: Any chance we'll get some closure on stuff from Volume 2, like the identity of the Black Beetle or Booster finding out who his son is?

Jurgens:I don't know that would be fair to the readers as that's getting to be a long time ago. We really had a minimal number of pages and much larger story that had to be dealt with first.

Does that mean that we'll never get an official reveal on the Black Beetle's identity? Pooh.

Tell DC Co-Publisher Dan DiDio you'll buy 10 copies each of every issue and that all your friends will do the same and you'll have a Booster Gold series in no time.

DC Comics has been as good as their word since promising to "Hold the Line at $2.99" in 2011. Therefore, you could expect to grab 10 copies of a new Booster Gold comic for $30 (plus tax). Maybe less, if your Local Comic Shop offers subscriber discounts, as many do. I know a lot of people who spend much more than that on comics every week!

Do you still have any reservations about the upcoming Convergence: Booster Gold? Well, let the issue's writer and artist put your mind at ease.

IGN: What would you say to fans to get them excited for your comic?

Dan Jurgens: Booster Gold! Superboy! The Legion of Super Heroes! And a special guest star that everyone wants to see in a Booster story! I don't think we need more than that!

Alvaro Martinez: They'll get to see a lot of places and characters they haven't seen in a long time. Also, all the questions they may have from Booster Gold: Futures End will be answered. Oh, and a very very long awaited reunion will take place!

A long-awaited reuinon? I'm sure he must be talking about Booster Gold and Skeets!
