So, Have You Seen Those Smallville Costumes?
Unless you only get your Smallville news from the blog here, you've probably seen the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Smallville screenshot that exploded all over the web (including here in the blog comments and in the forum -- twice!) yesterday. Based on the fact that the image is now on every comic website, it seems that people are generally pretty excited about this. Too bad that doesn't translate into comic sales.
Other than the glasses, it looks pretty good, yes? Very 52, as expected. (I will politely refrain from commenting on Mobile Suite Beetle there in the background.) Booster portrayer Eric Martsolf and Geoff John shave plenty to say about their Smallville version of Booster Gold over at TVguide.com. You can read the full article -- sorry, no more pictures -- here.
UPDATE 03/30/2011: Mike Furlong has added a link to more pictures in the comments below. Thinks Mike.

Batman: the Blue and the Gold
Ah, Cartoon Network, you mess with my head again. Friday night's episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold was advance teased as an episode featuring the Birds of Prey. But what actually aired was "The Menace of the Madniks," a Booster Gold episode in which Booster and Batman argue over which hero is really Ted Kord's best friend. This Boosterrific episode was scheduled to air next week, giving me some time to warn Booster Gold fans about it. Curse you, Cartoon Network, and your unreliable scheduling!
"The Menace of the Madniks" is a bit of a continuity nightmare, really. The episode re-writes Ted's death as a heroic self-sacrifice to stop a missile, merges aspects of Blue Beetle I and II, and renames Steve Ditko's chaotic Madmen the "Madniks," probably to avoid any confusion with the more familiar Madman comic character by Mike Allred. The biggest flaw in the episode is that it whitewashes the legacy of the Blue Beetle by portraying Ted Kord as a saint, ignoring the hijinks that made the character so popular in the 80s & 90s.
Despite these changes, it's a very fun episode. (Are there any Brave and the Bold episodes that aren't?) I highly recommend it.

Blue and Gold in Business
I recently added this totally awesome image from the next issue tease in Justice League Europe #6 to the database.
I liked it so much, I mocked-up the business card that the pair were no doubt handing to all their contacts. ("Here, take my card, Mr. Wayne.")
Don't bother asking why would I waste my time in such a frivolous manner as making recreations of fictional business cards referenced in one-panel gags from comic books published 20 years ago. It's my time, and I'll waste it however I want to. So there.

Booster Gold, the Minion
"In addition, the network has released a brief video of Erica Durance (Lois Lane) answering viewer questions about the season, which sees the return of familiar faces like Arthur Curry (Alan Ritchson), Kara (Laura Vandervoort), Pa Kent (John Schneider) and Hawkman (Michael Shanks), and the introduction of such characters as Darkseid and his minions, Hawkgirl, Deadshot, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle."
Wait, Blue & Gold will be minions of Darkseid? I sure hope that's just bad grammar.
The above sentence is from Spinoff, the television/movie arm of ComicBookResources. You can read the whole blurb and see the CS Smallville season 10 trailers -- none of them include Booster Gold, but Dr. Fate gets a shout out -- here.

The Big Booster Gold News from Comic Con
On Sunday at the Smallville panel, Geoff Johns told the world that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (and Skeets!) will be on Smallville this season. (See a review of news from the panel at Newsarama.com.) Johns, in an interview with Comic Book Resources (viewable here), says that the Smallville Booster will be "very Booster-Gold-y." I have no idea what that means, but I expect good things.
Johns' affinity for the character is well documented. He will no doubt treat the character right. Johns-written episodes of Smallville have gotten good press and high viewership, so signs point to this episode having a good chance of introducing a whole new generation to the character of Booster Gold a la "The Greatest Story Never Told." What's the chance that Booster gets called "Green Lantern" at least once?
We'll keep an eye out for casting news and air dates for Booster's live-action debut.
