Booster Gold Will Always Be No. 1 on My List

Jesse Schedeen has composed his list of "The Top 25 Heroes of DC Comics" for IGN.com. I might not agree with the entire list, but I can't argue that Booster Gold deserves to be on it.

When you're a washed-up athlete in a world full of futuristic technology, how do you recapture that lost glory? Why, by stealing a bunch of gear and traveling back in time to present yourself as the world's greatest superhero, of course. Folks in the present day DC Universe don't tend to see Booster Gold as the great hero he imagines himself to be. He's more of a running joke. But he perseveres, and over the years he's proven that he really does have the right stuff. The combination of goofball humor and time travel antics always make Booster's misadventures fun to read.

If you ask me, "fun to read" should be what every comic book should strive for. Hopefully we'll see Booster bring fun back to the DCnU soon.

Thanks to Russ Burlingame for passing me this list.

Booster Gold Has Shiny, White Teeth

Booster Gold has been sick, maimed, and dead (twice!), so it's no surprise we've seen him interact with doctors often over the years.

However, for a guy who made his name by smiling for the cameras, we've never once seen him go to the dentist. It's enough to make you wonder: are those Booster's real teeth?

Maybe by the 25th century, dentistry has advanced to the point where all teeth are laminated to prevent wear and decay. (Booster drinks a lot of coffee, yet his teeth are still pearly white!) Or maybe Booster lost his teeth in a football accident, and now wears plasti-enamel dental implants.

What has me thinking about this? I have a dental appointment this afternoon to have cavities filled, and I got to wondering "What Would Booster Do"? Your guess is as good as mine.

Great Conspiracies in American History

Historians and conspiracy theorists continue to debate one of the greatest mysteries in American history: who really killed President John F. Kennedy fifty years ago today?

While Lee Harvey Oswald is officially recognized as the assassin, it is still rumored that there were other shooters. Contemporary accounts indicate that many eyewitnesses believed shots came from a "grassy knoll," not the Texas School Book Depository where Oswald was reportedly hiding.

Does Booster Gold know who really killed JFK?

Perhaps the only way to know what really happened to our 35th President would be to travel back in time and witness it ourselves. That's what Booster Gold did, according to Booster Gold Vol. 2, #25 (in a story appropriately titled "Day of Death").

Simply the Best

52 was pretty good, wasn't it?

Last week's poll question: What do you consider to be Booster Gold's most memorable adventure? (58 votes)

What do you consider to be Booster Gold's most memorable adventure?

Last week's question leads to this week's question. If heroes are often defined by their villains, who defines Booster Gold?

Johns Implies Booster Gold TV Show Is Dead

Yesterday, DC released its latest "DC All Access" episode. There were a couple of tidbits of interest to Booster Gold fans.

Starting at 4:21 in the Youtube video embedded above, host Blair Herter interviews Geoff Johns about the five DC television shows currently in production, specifically Green Arrow, I, Zombie, Constantine, Gothamn, and "the dark horse" Hourman. Notice anyone missing from that list? You have to figure that if Johns doesn't mention Booster Gold, we can probably assume it's a dead project.

When the conversation turns to the comics Johns is writing (at about 5:58), Johns goes on to explain that he considers Cyborg and Captain Marvel Shazam! to be "the Blue Beetle and Booster Gold of my era Justice League." I guess actually using Beetle and Booster in the New 52 would have been too easy, huh, Geoff?
