Booster Gold's one-panel appearance in Wednesday's Blue Beetle, Volume 3, #10 caught me entirely by surprise, despite the fact that we all knew Booster would be guest starring in next month's issue #11. (We did all know that and were already planning to purchase it, right?) Thanks to Morgenstern for pointing this appearance out.

To make up for my lax oversight, I present to you the Blue Beetle comic I wish Booster Gold had appeared in this week:

The above image must be the best All Star issue that DC never published. Unwilling to wait for DC to get around to publishing this series, clearly the greatest idea in the history of comics, Thormeister created this as the cover to an entire 7-page story pitting the pair against Darth Vader. Those DC guys should totally hire Thormeister. The guy came up with a very good story.

NEVER!!! Booster Gold will not play second fiddle to a powerless, unoriginal (he is the 2nd) and dead guy. Other than that, love the art.

Jesster, I assume you mean "NEVER AGAIN!!!", as Booster played second-fiddle to Blue Beetle quite frequently back in the day. Those crazy ideas that Booster gets blamed for were usually Ted Kord's, and Ted more than once called Booster his "Boy Wonder" with no objection from Booster. Granted, Ted wasn't dead at the time, and I agree that the world certainly does not need WEEKEND AT BERNIES III.

Booster wouldn't call out and embarrass his best friend, I used to refer to a friend in high school as my sidekick Dynamic Boy but years later he told me that he hated it. As for being second fiddle, I have to respectfully disagree, Booster started out as the straight man which was reversed later.

Maybe "second fiddle" was a poor choice of phrase on my part. You are certainly correct that late in their relationship, Booster went from straight man to fool. The reversal happened specifically after DC tried to de-humorize Blue Beetle to include him with the other Charlton characters in the too-serious-for-its-own-good L.A.W. (LIVING ASSAULT WEAPONS) in 1999. That status-quo was maintained in the SuperBuddies minis, where Booster was portrayed as a complete idiot, and continued until Beetle's death.

LOVE this cover! Perfectly captures their old JLI humor.

Looking forward to the new Beetle and Booster meeting. Hope this leads to a great friendship.

Holy crap! I just saw this - I'm glad you guys liked it - it was fun to do, especially considering everything that's happened to these guys. I would TOTALLY do a Booster/Beetle series if given a chance, but I have about as much chance as DCNu being undone for this to happen.
