Imagining the End of the World

Booster Gold meets Zatanna: how many pages until Zatanna turns Booster into a frog?

Last week's poll question: Which Justice Leaguer should Booster Gold team up with for the first time? (48 votes)

Which Justice Leaguer should Booster Gold team up with for the first time?

Today's poll is inspired by DC's recent decision to prevent Batwoman from marrying and the outcry that triggered from fans. (The book's creative staff quit in protest. Would we even know about DC editorial's decision if the creative staff hadn't quit? Should fans now expect this sort of behind-the-scenes dysfunction when they consider reading DC Comics? What should Booster Gold fans be prepared to accept if we ever actually see the much-promised Booster Gold volume 3?)

Where No Skeets Has Gone Before

The DC Universe Online MMO is still online and free to play. If you're obsessed with Booster Gold, it's a great place to hang out. And when Sony Online Entertainment releases its next Downloadable Content (DLC) for the game, there will be even more goods for Booster boosters.

Introducing the Booster Gold-inspired iconic gear:

Booster Gold Iconic Armor in DC Universe Online

Finally, a Booster Gold power-suit that looks worse than his New 52 costume! It looks like a Mobile Suit Gundam fever dream. Iconic gear is supposed to be an incentive for power-players, but I can't imagine who would want to wear Skeets for their codpiece. That's just so, so wrong.

You can find a large version of this pic and more information about the planned "Origin Crisis" DLC at ComicsAlliance.com.

What I'll Be Watching on TV This Weekend

This Sunday may see the biggest football game in America, but neither Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco nor San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick has ever thrown a pass to save the universe....

52 Week 52

...much less an entire multi-verse!

Since the Big Game isn't until Sunday, you might want to check out DC Nation on Cartoon Network tomorrow morning at 10AM EST to pass the time. There will be a new Thunder & Lightning short, "Under the Weather," that Comics Alliance tells us will include a Booster Gold product placement! (Thanks to Morgenstern for reminding those of us who like to sleep in on Saturdays to set our DVRs.)

Enjoy the game, everybody.

The Animated Art of Denver Brubaker

Denver Brubaker is most prominently known as the mastermind behind the web comic Tales of a Checkered Man, but the man also has a soft spot for a particularly comedic duo.

Blue and Gold by Denver Brubaker

For someone with his own webcomic to promote, Brubaker finds plenty of time to share the love with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. The image above was Brubaker's contribution to a thread of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold fan art that he instigated over a year ago on Comic Vine. In more recent months, Brubaker has tried to drum up support for a Blue and Gold webcomic at Outcast studios and showcased another image of Blue and Gold on Comics Alliance.

You can find more of the talented Mr. Brubaker's work at thecheckeredman.deviantart.com and, of course, checkeredman.com.

What We Learned at NYCC 2011

David Uzumeri covered the "DC ALL ACCESS: Justice League" panel at New York Comic Con for Comics Alliance and turned in the following quote about Booster Gold:

[Dan] Jurgens and [Geoff] Johns confirmed that Booster Gold doesn't remember the pre-New 52 DC Universe.

However, Vaneta Rogers also covered the panel for Newsarama, and her article implies a starkly different conclusion:

Jurgens said Booster's experiences from Flashpoint seem to be relatively intact, but he said the fact that he has those memories in his head somewhere doesn't necessarily mean he can remember them consciously.

Johns said, "If Booster remembers anything, he's not going to tell anyone."

Johns: "Does Skeets remember?"

Jurgens: "No, Skeets does not."

Johns: "Does Rip Hunter remember?"

Jurgens: "That's a story still waiting to be told."

(Is it just me, or does Johns' response to Jurgens' announcement that Booster remembers sound like something a super villain would say to a hero who has just discovered his world-ending plot?)

Josie Campbell's article for Comic Book Resources verifies Rogers' report.

[DC Senior Vice President Bob] Wayne then asked Jurgens on behalf of the online fans about Booster Gold's continuity and whether Booster remembers the timeline from before Flashpoint. "Booster's experiences are still relatively intact," said Jurgens before continuing, "But it's one thing to have those memories, it's another thing entirely to recall those memories."

"Is Rip Hunter coming back?" Johns asked him.

"There are still stories to be told," said Jurgens, before dashing Johns hopes that Skeets would reappear anytime soon.

Funny that three reporters covering the same event would hear three different stories, isn't it? In any event, it seems likely that Booster does remember Flashpoint, even if his lips are currently sealed. This isn't the first time that history has been changed around Skeets (or Booster, for that matter). It is interesting to speculate how Rip Hunter, DC's resident Time Master since the Silver Age, is dealing with the changes to history. Certainly, that's a story I'm looking forward to reading.
