New Old Release: 52 Pick-Up TPB

Last week, DC released its retailer solicitations for July 2023, and about the only thing I can say about it is that Booster boosters are going to be able to save a bunch of money on comic books this summer.

The only sign of our hero is the DC Vs. Vampires: All Out- War Part 2 collection, and I'd never recommend anyone should even read that, let alone buy it.

But rather than focus on our summer without Gold — there will be plenty of time for that later — let's stay positive and keep an eye on what we're getting this week: the re-release of Booster Gold: 52 Pick-Up.

DC is calling this the 2023 edition. So far as I'm aware, the only thing different from the 2008 printing is the price, but I can't begrudge that. Everything is more expensive now than it was 15 years ago.

In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, what cost you $14.99 in 2008 should cost you $20.89 today. Turns out that Booster Gold: 52 Pick-Up 2023 Edition is a bargain! Buy a copy for everyone in your family.

UPDATE: I got an email from Marty pointing out that Skeets is on the solicited Dan Mora cover for Batman/Superman: World's Finest #17 due on July 18. That's definitely something to look forward to!

Coming Soon: 52 Pick-Up 2023 Edition

BleedingCool.com reports

DC Comics has announced 2023 editions of the following books: Creature Commandos, Batman And Son, Booster Gold: 52 Pick Up, The Authority Book One, Batman And Robin Vol 1: Batman Reborn, and Wonder Woman: Paradise Found.

It's great that 52 Pick Up is getting a new printing, but it makes me wonder whether that's happening just because it finally sold out on Amazon following the recent announcement about Warner Bros' latest plans or whether its story (by Geoff Johns) will be the basis for James Gunn's show.

Based on Gunn's "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" announcement, I've been assuming that his Booster Gold show will be based on Jurgens' original run, which is collected in The Big Fall and is also sold out on Amazon. But no reprint announcement for that one yet.

So Johns over Jurgens? Or am I reading too much into this? Probably the latter. If Gunn's previous work is any indication, the television show won't hew too closely to any previously published story.

New Release: DC Vs. Vampires 12 Cover C

Hey, DC, as someone who bought your product throughout the 1990s, let me say that I think you've forgotten the lessons we learned during the Dark Age of Comics, namely, "Thou Shalt Not Get Carried Away With Variant Covers."

This week alone, you're releasing 18 distinct books with at least 73 different covers! I love comics, but that's too many.

Booster Gold appears on exactly 1 of those covers, the 1:25 Filya Bratukhin retailer incentive card stock variant (Cover C) of DC Vs. Vampires #12.

© DC Comics

I haven't seen all the interior pages (other than what is visible in the preview at AIPTComics.com), but is that Booster's New 52 costume? Do these damn vampires spill over into other alternate Earths? Please, no. Just no.

Elsewhere on this week's comic rack, Booster will also be found within the collected edition of Superman Red & Blue (reprinting his appearance in issue #3), Nightwing Volume 2: Get Grayson (reprinting Nightwing #88) and the second printing of Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special (reprinting, um, Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special).

Buy some (reprinted) comics and make Skeets happy.

New Release: Human Target 7

Booster Gold lends a hand in this week's Human Target #7!

© DC Comics

Ha, ha. Get it?

For the record, that's Booster's only participation in the issue, which is about the least Booster Gold we've gotten on panel since we saw just a sliver of his arm way back in Justice League #2 (1987).

If you're in the market for a little more Booster, know that this week also saw the release of reprint collections of the first halves of The Human Target and DC vs Vampires mini-series, as well as the complete reprint of another mini-series called Blue and Gold.

If you do buy one of these books, you will make Skeets happy.

New Old Release: Dark Crisis 1 Second Printing

DC released the second printings of Dark Crisis #1 through #3 this week with the series' new title, Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths.

© DC Comics

I'm certain that Booster Gold is in that book's story. What I can't yet say for certain is whether he is on that cover.

He is on the back of that Daniel Sampere wraparound cover of the less "Infinite" first printing, and he'll be on the back of the third printing this October with the original Crisis on Infinite Earths-inspired title logo pictured here:

But the question remains, does the second printing use both sides of the Sampere wraparound cover? The solicitation text isn't clear, and sadly, try as I might, I can't flip over any of the digital images I can find online to see the back.

So if anyone discovers a copy at their Local Comic Shop and can definitively answer the most important question of our times, please let me know so that I can update Boosterrific.com accordingly. Thank you!

UPDATE: Joe Carlo, owner or Monday's awesome gif, has confirmed this is also a Boosterrific wraparound cover. Thanks, Joe!
