He's Awesome

One bit of Booster Gold movie-related news seemed to get people really excited this week. Several sources called my attention to this interview promoting the upcoming the direct-to-video The Marine 5: Battleground at Uproxx.com:

Bill Hancock: I know you love being the Marine, you love playing this character. If WWE Studios came to you and said, "You can do whatever you want to do with a movie," what would be your dream project?

The Miz: My dream project? I mean, I think anyone's dream project right now is how amazing the Marvel/DC comic book era is really coming together and really blowing up the scene. Anytime you have a movie, it's breaking records, it's doing great things, so obviously I'd want a Marvel character.

Obviously, Deadpool is already taken and Ryan Reynolds did an absolutely fantastic job. That was always my dream role ever since I saw the video game seven years ago, I was like "Oh my god, I want to play this guy!" But, Ryan Reynolds took it and knocked it out of the park and did an absolutely incredible job, so I can't fault him at all. But I think anyone would want to do Marvel or DC, maybe WWE can combine with them and do something, but you never know.

BH: So if Deadpool's taken, do you have a top comic book character that you'd like to play?

Miz: Yeah, I mean a lot of the main ones are kind of taken. I've always wanted to play Booster Gold. Do you know who he is?

BH: Yeah, I know who Booster Gold is.

Miz: So that would be pretty fun.

BH: That would be perfect for you.

Miz: Haha, thanks.

While I am pleased that there are actors out there who know who Booster Gold is and are eager to play him, I think it goes without saying that anyone would want to play Booster Gold if they knew who he was. It's the role of a lifetime! Whoever is ultimately cast had better clear a space on his mantle shelf for his inevitable Best Actor Oscar.

I have to admit that I have no idea if The Miz would be "perfect" in the role. Honestly, I have no idea who The Miz is. (Sorry. I'm old. I stopped paying attention to wrestling when Andre the Giant died, and both John Cena and I decided one Marine was enough for us.) But judging by my mailbox and the speed with which this interview shot around the Internet, the man obviously has a bucket full of fans who are quite giddy with anticipation at the possibility.

New Release: JLU Skeets in Flash 21

ComicsBeat.com has the exclusive preview of today's The Flash #21, and you don't have to look to hard to find a cameo appearance by the sidekick of the future, Skeets!

© DC Comics

This is hardly the first time we've seen Skeets' outer shell among the artifacts stored in the JLA trophy room. One version or another has been in the Watchtower since JLA Secret Files & Origins #2 in 1998. We saw a similar image in Justice League of America, volume 2, #7 in 2006.

However, this is the first time we've seen the Justice League Unlimited version of Skeets in the regular DCnU. Is this multiverse crossover a side effect of Convergence, Rebirth, or just an artist who likes the JLU look? Who cares? It's Skeets!

Thanks to Benni Beard for pointing out this easter egg!

This Day in History: Hexing Booster Gold

Remember that time when there was a raging debate about whether Booster Gold, who had been missing from the DC Universe for months, was going to reappear in another character's comic set in the past?

I'm talking about All-Star Western #19.

© DC Comics

Believe it or not, that issue was released 4 years ago today. Ah, it feels like only 3.

In the 4 years since then, Booster Gold has appeared in exactly 11 DCnU comics (4 All-Star Westerns, 3 Convergence tie-ins, 2 Bat-Mites, 1 Futures End, and 1 Flintstones, which may or may not be in continuity). That's less than one comic every 4 months.

Obviously, I think that's not often enough. Get on the stick, DC! I want more Booster Gold.

It Is Whatever You Think It Is

Unless explicitly intended otherwise, most one-shot issues should probably be considered outside of continuity. That's sort of what "one-shot" implies.

Last week's poll question: Was Booster Gold/Flintstones in continuity? (55 votes)

Was Booster Gold/Flintstones in continuity?

I'm glad I asked this question. I'm surprised how few of you actually consider this to be in continuity. It's always good to know what the fans are thinking.

That said, I still see nothing to prevent the issue's story from taking place in modern DC continuity. Given that there's no indication in DC's July solicitations that we'll be seeing Booster Gold again any time before August (at the earliest), it looks like the publisher is in no hurry to prove this story wasn't in continuity. Therefore, I'm going to classify it as such here on Boosterrific.com.

(What is or is not in continuity is always in flux. For examples: Batman: Son of the Demon, Watchmen, and anything that DC published prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths. If you're a fan long enough, everything will come and go and come back again. Even Extreme Justice.)

In Brightest Day, In Darkest Knight

Michael Boruff isn't the only Booster Gold cosplayer out this season. Check out this pose from New England's Super Megafest Comic Con two weeks ago:

That's BattleStardoe as Booster Gold and Everyone's Hero as The Darker Knight. (Photo is from Everyone's Hero post on Cosplay Amino.) What a good looking pair!
