Always There When You Need Him

The Boosterrific Forum will be closed until further notice to conserve bandwidth. I'm having problems with leeching from spambots that I will have to solve before it costs me any more money. I'm hoping that since no one has posted in the Forum for over 2 weeks and no Booster Gold comics are being published anymore, this shutdown won't pose too much of a problem for anyone.

For those of you who don't know how the internet works, this website is allotted a fixed data transfer amount per month. This is measured by the amount of data sent between the web server and the computer you are reading this on. Right now, I'm throwing away bandwidth to automated spam scripts that aren't using my data in any positive way. Since the host of Boosterrific.com is monitoring and charging me for that bandwidth usage, I have to find a way to stop or reduce the waste. The Forum will remain shut down until I code an effective solution for the problem (timetable unknown). Sorry.

To distract you from that unhappy news, I present to you with no commercial interruptions "Time Traveling Hero", a poem by Alex Tisdale.

In bright fettered darkness;
If ever you need me...
Lost deep in the timestream—
That is where I will be.
Past, present, and future—
There is so much to see!
But I must keep going,
To maintain that you're free.

You can find more of writer/illustrator Tisdale's work on his Wordpress or his Tumblr blogs.

Greatest Hero Who's Never Done Anything

Grimmy asked in last week's comments why I didn't include the option of "never" in the poll. The answer is because I was trying to be somewhat upbeat. But given that most of you think it might take up to 6 months (that's half a year!) before we see Booster Gold again, it seems that most of you weren't feeling much more positive than Grimmy was. Give us back our Booster Gold, DC!

Last week's poll question: When do you think we will see Booster Gold reappear in a DC comic book? (46 votes)

When do you think we will see Booster Gold reappear in a DC comic book?

If there's one thing we've learned since the DCnU reboot, it's that we really don't know what our favorite characters' histories are anymore. Even though we don't necessarily know what did happen, we can be sure that there are some things we know didn't happen. Which of these "missing adventures" bothers us the most?

Molten Man is Gold, Too

There's something charming about today's fan art of B-List DC super hero Booster Gold versus B-List Marvel villain Molten Man. Maybe it's the fact that I'm left wondering how many readers who have read enough comics to be familiar with these two characters still draw in crayon?

Booster Gold vs Molten Man

The above action pose comes to us from Jose Ramiro. You can see more of his diverse (and oddly suggestive) work on DeviantArt.com.

Bully for Booster Gold

Extreme Justice #6

Believe it or not, there are several comics websites I enjoy that have nothing to do with Booster Gold. (Hard to believe, I know, but they do exist.) When those sites veer into Booster territory, no matter how tangentially, I'd be remiss not to promote them here. Today's link falls into that category.

Bully the Little Stuffed Bull spends a great deal of time entertaining the web on his website, Bully Says: Comics Oughta Be Fun. One of his regular weekly features is "Ten of a Kind," in which he posts 10 comic book covers sharing a common theme. This week, the theme is anger, and -- guess who? -- Booster Gold is included from the cover of Extreme Justice #6.

This issue, you'll recall, is the one in which Booster reclaims what was left of the fortune stolen from him by the Manhunters in Millennium. This comic is also the last recorded appearance of Dirk Davis, Booster's former manager and among the first character casualties of DC's emerging, line-wide annual crossovers strategy. DC editorial mandated turning established supporting characters into sleeper-agent villains for Millennium, resulting in some very confusing continuity and permanently truncated story lines. Good to see that DC has learned their lesson on that front (he says, sarcastically).

So go, enjoy Bully's gentle, loving mockery of comic books. I know I do.

Dressing Up for Baltimore Comic Con 2012

Last week I gave you Dragon Con. This week, I give you Baltimore Comic-Con 2012. Feast your eyes on these cosplayers:

Booster Gold cosplayers at Baltimore Comic-Con 2012

The pic of the Blue and Gold girls on the left comes via On Wednesdays We Wear Pink, which includes this pair among favorite BCC 2012 cosplayers. It's hard to see in my pic, but that's a collared Booster Gold t-shirt in the background!

Speaking of collared Booster Gold shirts, the pic on the right comes by way of Inverse Press. You probably can't dress as Booster Gold in your workplace, but this fellow's clever update of Booster's classic costume would even be allowed on the links at your local country club! Take that, Jim Lee!
