New (Last Week) Release: Wonder Woman 7

Rasalonn writes

Hi hi. Did you see the panel in the new Wonder Woman comic? Superman and Wonder Woman go to a space mall to buy Batman a present. And the only thing they can both agree on is they refuse to buy Batman the Booster Gold autobiography! The book store even promotes Booster Gold will be there that day. Batman is missing out not getting that book!

The issue that Rasalonn is talking about is last week's Wonder Woman #7, and this is the panel:

As Rasalonn describes, the story, titled "Gifted," is (mostly) about Superman and Wonder Woman searching for the perfect birthday gift for Batman. It is written by Tom King, who also once wrote a story about Booster Gold trying to give Batman the perfect gift and failing. That story is called "The Gift." I happen to agree with Superman and Wonder Woman that it's best not to remind Batman (or anyone, for that matter) of that fiasco, and I apologize for now having done so.

No, I had not seen this, Rasalonn. Thanks for pointing it out.

New Old Release: War of the Gods 4

I don't have to look at any previews to tell you that Booster Gold will definitely be in your Local Comic Shop this week... because he was there before.

This is page 8, panel 8 of 1991's War of the Gods:

A reprint of that comic, now called Wonder Woman War of the Gods Special Edition #4, will be available at fine comic shops everywhere this week. Given that panel is Booster Gold's only appearance in this otherwise mediocre event mini-series, Skeets will understand if you choose to buy it or not.

DC Solicitations for September

AIPTcomics.com has all of DC's solicitations for September, and oh, boy, they look great.

I've had my eye out for Blue Beetle #1 ever since DC.com revealed back in April that Ted Kord (and the Bug!) would be on the Adrian Gutierrez cover.

© DC Comics

I've also been anticipating Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville #1 for months, and although I don't like incentive variants, I just might be convinced to pony up for this 1:25 Kevin Maguire variant cover.

© DC Comics

I hadn't been planning on buying any of the four monthly books written by Tom King, but Julian Totino Tedesco makes riding a kanga look like so much fun on the variant cover for Wonder Woman #1, I just might change my mind. (It wouldn't be the first time I'd've bought a comic just because of a Tedesco cover.)

Ooh! And how about the Chris Samnee variant for Shazam #3? Or the two part Mikel Janin acetate cover for Superman #6? And don't even get me started on the Old Man Red Bee (and Old Man Blackhawk!) appearing on the 1:25 Rahazzah variant for Peacemaker Tries Hard! #5.

Now, if you've read down this far, you might have noticed that I haven't mentioned Booster Gold yet. Well, that's because the solicitation doesn't either. I was trying to soften the blow with all those great covers.

Did it work?

If it helps, DC also announced that the first six issues of The Human Target will be collected (for the second time) in October. Booster will be in that. Come to think if it, it's also got some great covers.

Booster may be hard to find these days, but at least it isn't hurting my eyes to keep looking.

New Release: Wonder Woman 80th Anniversary

Leave it to Booster Gold to crash Wonder Woman's 80th anniversary party!

From this week's Wonder Woman 80-Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular:

Now that is a great cameo in a tribute book! Especially considering that Booster and Wondy have traditionally had something of a frosty relationship because, well, she's a wonder and he's a bit of a cad.

For example, here is their meeting in 1992's Justice League America Annual #6:

Thanks to Logan Peterson for calling Wonder Woman 80-Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular to our attention. (You're a great salesman, Logan. My Local Comic Shop owes you a commission!)

New Release: TftDM:WW:WotG

I didn't expect to find Booster Gold in any of today's comics, so imagine my surprise when I spotted this fine looking group:

© DC Comics

That's Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Wonder Woman: War of the Gods #1, the "Dark Multiverse" version of the 1991 "War of the Gods" crossover event. Ironically, Booster appears in three panels in this self-contained one-shot issue, which is two more panels than he appeared in during the original 25-part story!

For the record, it was this panel in War of the Gods #4:

© DC Comics

As you can see, the original story had layouts by George Perez. It is a dark multiverse indeed without George Perez in it.

If you'd like to see more of Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Wonder Woman: War of the Gods before you decide whether you want to spend $6 on a Booster Gold cameo appearance, CBR.com has the preview.
