Blatant Self-Promotion: Dualing Dice Game

I interrupt our regularly schedule for Boosterrific Blog posts to present the following link to the Kickstarter for Dualing Dice, a board game I have been helping to develop. By which I mean I handled graphic design for the project, including box, board, card, and instructions. The concept and rules were created by professional game designer Jimmy Sanders.

Before you follow the link, however, I feel I need to warn my many international readers that shipping of the physical board game is currently limited to addresses within the United States. If you live outside the U.S. and like what you see, we do provide the option for a pdf of the rules and cards that you can use to play the game with your own dice. (Sorry about that. If everything goes well, we hope to correct this limitation in the future.)

Thank you for your consideration. Booster-centric posting will resume at its regularly scheduled time tomorrow.

Shameless Self Promotion

Today I'm hijacking my own blog in promotion of my latest novel, a cozy murder mystery in a fantasy setting, Apprentice to Murder: The Tale of Robin the Rascal in the Wizard's Own Words.

Apprentice to Murder: The Tale of Robin the Rascal in the Wizard's Own Words

According to the book cover (which I also wrote):

Life is easy for young Prince Robin. Growing up with the luxuries afforded members of the royal family, he dreams of one day becoming a knight like his late father. But the young nobleman's dreams are derailed when his cousin, heir apparent Prince John, dies under questionable circumstances. Fingers quickly point to Robin, who inconveniently happens to be the next in the line of succession and the last person to have seen John alive.

To prevent civil war, Robin abdicates his birthright for an apprenticeship under Royal Wizard Septimus. Robin's sacrifice saves the kingdom, but one by one, the inhabitants of Windwick Castle begin to die, each new death seeming to further incriminate the fallen prince. The only way for Robin to save himself is find John's real killer.

The apprentice wizard is going to learn the hard way that even magic has its limits.

If you'd like to read more, the first chapter is available for free at JamesWalterStephens.com.

And if you like what you see there, the book is now available as both a $15 paperback and a $2.99 ebook on Amazon.com.

Thank you for your consideration.

Shameless Self-Promotion 2015

In the grand tradition of Booster Gold, I am using this platform to promote my latest business venture: SnarfQuest Tales the video game on Kickstarter.com.

Some of you older Dungeons and Dragons and comic fans may recognize Larry Elmore's high-fantasy SnarfQuest comic strip as a long-running feature in Dragon Magazine. My friends and I at Cellbloc Studios are, with Larry's support, turning the comic into a point-and-click video game.

If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, please consider supporting our Kickstarter project. And even if your interests lie elsewhere, consider supporting our Kickstarter as a way of indirectly supporting Boosterrific.com. (Somebody's got to pay the bills around here.)

Click here to visit SnarfQuest Tales on Kickstater.com.

Thank you for your support!

Cross Promotion Works (Except When It Doesn't)

Leave it to Russ Burlingame of ComicBook.com to turn everything back to Booster Gold. That's why we like him so much.

Last week, Burlingame interviewed Marco Lopez and Bryan Ginn, creators of the independent comic Massively Effectively. Even though Burlingame was trying to help promote their book, he couldn't help turning the conversation back to the Greatest Superhero Everâ„¢:

ComicBook.com: Now, there's a Mass Effect poster in this series. What's the deal with the relationship you have with that video game in-story?

Ginn: The thing with that poster is that the comic was originally called Mass and Effect, because their names are Mass and Effect. I think on the poster... I don't know if it has the "and" part. And then I started remembering the whole thing that Jason Rubin went through who did the comic book for Aspen that was called Iron and the Maiden, and then Iron Maiden was suing them, saying they were too close to their trademark. It went back and forth and eventually he ended up changing the name to Iron Saint. So the comic shop was called Massively Effective Comics, so I was like, "Let's just change the title to Massively Effective." We didn't call it Massively Effective, and it wasn't originally called Mass and Effect, to get Mass Effect fans to read the comic book so we're hoping with Massively Effective that nobody has any problems with. Our backup title is just called Massively Effective Comics, just like the comic shop [laughs].

Lopez: Yeah, our original title was going to be "If Villainy You Detect, Just Call Mass and Effect," and then the whole Mass Effect video game became big and I was like, "Let's change the title. Just number one so there's no confusion and number two so we don't get sued." But the poster in the comic shop is because the two characters back in they day at some point licensed their rights away and made a bunch of movie selling comics and merchandise. That's how they actually—they used that money to open up their own comic book shop, so we threw that in there as a couple of different references.

ComicBook.com: I can appreciate that. I'm a big Booster Gold guy, and he's done that before.

Ginn: Yeah, we're huge Booster Gold and Blue Beetle fans.

Well, if Ginn and Lopez are big Booster Gold fans, I can be a big Massively Effective fan. Good luck, guys!
