My Year Is Made

Look what showed up my mailbox!

© DC Comics

Believe it or not, that's my first Dan Jurgens sketch. I wasn't expecting it — I was only expecting Dan to sign a copy of Russ Burlingame's The Gold Exchange: The Deluxe Edition, not sketch in it — and I was not emotionally prepared for how much I was going to love it.

I love the high collar. I love the shades of gray washes (the exact colors of Booster's personal ethics). I especially love how the sketchiness of it makes Booster look older, as though Booster has been growing old along with me.

So now I've got everything I want in life. It's all downhill from here.

Big thanks to Jurgens (and Russ Burlingame) for making all my previously unrecognized dreams come true.

Gold and Blue Comic

I've lost track of the number of stories I've seen on the Internet repeating the news of the upcoming Blue and Gold series. But I've already seen exactly one person calling for the not-yet-announced-but-should-be pairing of the Gold and Blue.

This needs to happen. @GeorgeKambadais via Twitter.com April 27, 2021

I agree with George. I am ready to give DC Comics money to read that, too. (And judging by the number of people who think I should be tracking Gold Beetle appearances, I'm not the only one.)

The Man Who Made 2020 Work for Him

Cort's back with more Booster Gold sketchbook pages! He writes

These are a fun and varied mix of styles so it was nice to add them all to my collection. Which is now 59 pieces large! 2020 has had a lot of downs and twists and turns, but it has been fruitful for having artists open their lists for mail-in commissions, and I've been very lucky and very grateful for that.

Way to find the bright side of everyone being stuck at home without regular jobs in 2020, Cort! (And we're grateful that you shared your luck with us.)

You can see Cort's full Booster Gold sketchbook online at imgur.com.

Mad Motherly Love

"Is Harley Quinn The Mother of Booster Gold's Son?"

That's the question that Russ Burlingame asks and tries to answer in an article this week on ComicBook.com. As he puts it:

That is, an older, future version of Booster Gold once revealed that he has a son. In fact, his son is Rip Hunter who, because of the magic of time-travel, is one of Booster's mentors in the whole Time Masters business. So, as with any woman who enters into a relationship with Booster, we have to ask: does this mean Harley could be Rip Hunter's mom?

Essentially, Burlingame is tugging at the dangling plot thread first teased in Time Masters: Vanishing Point, a mini-series published 10 years ago. The history of the DC universe has been rebooted at least three times since then. And Harley Quinn has always played by its own continuity rules anyway. Why does that decade-old, unanswered thread still itch?

Like the final fate of Amelia Earhart or the purpose behind the heads on Easter Island, it's the unanswered mysteries that continue to hold our attention even when the truth probably doesn't really matter anymore.

DC solicitations for May were released on Friday, and the biggest news for Booster Gold fans won't be making it into stores until August!

ON SALE 08.26.20 · $125.00

That's a whole lot of Booster Gold (including the Quarterly issue that was just reprinted this week in Justice League: Corporate Maneuvers).

Elsewhere, it looks like Booster will also be making return appearances of varying degrees (most of them very, very small) in the upcoming Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen trade (June 3) , Dial H for Hero Volume 2: New Heroes of Metropolis trade (June 3), Justice League of America by Brad Meltzer: The Deluxe Edition hardcover (June 10), and Justice League Volume 5: Justice/Doom War trade (June 17).

The solicitations don't indicate that Booster will be in Harley Quinn #73, which appears to continue the story begun in issue #70. I guess we'll find out whether that's a must-buy for Booster boosters when we get to May 6.

You can read the complete list of solicitations on Newsarama.com.
