Who You Got on Sunday?

Fingers are crossed everywhere.

Last week's poll question: Does the announcement that Ted Kord is coming to the nu52 in April mean that Booster Gold's return is also imminent? (40 votes)

Does the announcement that Ted Kord is coming to the nu52 in April mean that Booster Gold's return is also imminent?

Believe it or not, just in time for Super Bowl XLVIII, I present the 200th Boosterrific Poll question.

Aerodynamics of the Long Bomb

I've been enjoying Smallville Season 11 so much, but I can't quite overlook this bit of physics fallacy in issue #44:

© DC Comics

While Booster Gold is no doubt a superior athlete, he'd have a very had time throwing a basketball accurately 50 yards down field to an open receiver. It's not Booster's fault: you simply can't throw a "perfect spiral" with a round ball.

Instead of a round ball, American Football employs a prolate spheroid. In addition to the added benefit of the aerodynamic profile of the prolate spheroid, it is also easier to grip in one hand, thus allowing the passer to impart proper rotation to the football via the throwing motion. The rotation adds gyroscopic stability to the ball, resulting in faster, longer, and more accurate passes.

I know that you're just trying to be nice, Skeets, but so long as you look like a bloated cue ball, you'll not be participating in many successful Hail Marys.

What I'll Be Watching on TV This Weekend

This Sunday may see the biggest football game in America, but neither Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco nor San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick has ever thrown a pass to save the universe....

52 Week 52

...much less an entire multi-verse!

Since the Big Game isn't until Sunday, you might want to check out DC Nation on Cartoon Network tomorrow morning at 10AM EST to pass the time. There will be a new Thunder & Lightning short, "Under the Weather," that Comics Alliance tells us will include a Booster Gold product placement! (Thanks to Morgenstern for reminding those of us who like to sleep in on Saturdays to set our DVRs.)

Enjoy the game, everybody.

Life Imitates Art

Last week, news outlets reported that Skechers agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit over the truthfulness of fitness claims for their Shape-Ups line of shoes. One of the highest-profile celebrity endorsers of the Shape-Ups product was Joe Montana, arguably the greatest quarterback ever to play football.

An ex-quarterback of the highest caliber sacrificing credibility by endorsing a product that turned out to be less than advertised? If that sounds familiar, it's because Booster Gold made the same mistake six years ago with Akteon-Holt (as seen in 52 Week Three).

Joe Montana, you should have done your homework and read more comic books.

Cleaning House

Football questions always tend to bring the weakest poll response. I guess in the Venn diagram between comic book readers readers and sports fans, not a lot of us end up in the intersection. Maybe Booster Gold made the better choice: you sure can be a hero longer than you can play competitive football.

I thought this comparison between quarterbacks was fitting, mainly because both are well-accomplished and both play in large-market teams. (Boston/New York is very much the way I've always envisioned Metropolis/Gotham.) Besides that, their personalities couldn't be more different! So who did the voters pick?

Last week's poll question: Which 2012 Super Bowl quarterback is more like Michael Booster Carter? (21 votes)

Which 2012 Super Bowl quarterback is more like Michael Booster Carter?

Two weeks ago, we looked at who you might want to join the DCnU Justice League International. This week, we'll look on the flip side of that coin. After all, if we want to add Blue Beetle, we'll need to make some room on that roster.
