New Release: World's Finest 17

While Booster Gold has had many adventures without his robot sidekick since the pair debuted in 1985's Booster Gold #1, the reverse is not true. Skeets has rarely wandered far from Booster's side.

But this week, Skeets will be on the cover of Batman Superman: World's Finest #17 with nary a Booster Gold in sight!

© DC Comics

The issue preview at AIPTComics.com doesn't give any indication what role (if any) Skeets (or Booster) will play in the issue's story. Given that the scenario in preceding issues focuses on a villainous artificial intelligence taking over all the other artificial lifeforms in the DC Universe... things don't look good for our favorite sidekick.

Buy this issue and make Skeets happy!

UPDATE: As Marty notes in the comments, neither Booster nor Skeets appears inside the actual issue. Oh, well. We still got a Skeets cover.

Soon Releases: Harley Screws Up the DCU 6

I woke up yesterday to a breathless email from Marty that read

Booster!! He's in a comic!!! Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the DCU #6 (the solicitations have been kind of all over the place on this miniseries, so it might be advertised as #5 being the issue released today?) features three whole glorious panels of our boy.

So I gulped down my coffee and rushed out to my Local Comic Shop and plopped down $5 for this week's new release physical copy of Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the DCU #5. I then sat in my car flipping through the pages for signs of Booster... and nothing.

Booster Gold is NOT in Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the DCU #5. Nowhere. Not. One. Panel.

"Marty," I frantically typed into my email machine, "why would you do this to me?"

And Marty replied

That's strange. Issue #6 is available to read today digitally on the DCU Infinite app, I wonder why the physical release is behind? Either way, sorry to have pointed you to the wrong issue - Booster isn't in #5 at all.

Oh, the humanity!

But at least we have all been forewarned about an inevitability. Booster Gold will absolutely, positively be in Multiversity: Harley Screws Up the DCU #6, currently scheduled to arrive at your Local Comic Shop on August 8. (And, apparently available on the DC Infinite app right now, if, you know, you're a huge fan suffering from Booster Gold withdrawal and you just can't wait that long....)

Thanks, Marty!

Ruh Roh, Shaggy

As you may have seen on the usual comic news sites like CBR.com, the complete Warner Bros. animated feature film Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!, featuring a crossover between Hanna-Barbara's canine crime-solver and the Justice League, was leaked to the Internet this past weekend.

The leak is an undisputed fact. (I've seen the file. More on that in a minute.) What's not clear to me — or apparently to anyone else — is the motivation behind the leak.

These are other undisputed facts: Warner Bros. cancelled Scoob! Holiday Haunt1 and Scooby Doo! and the Haunted High Rise2 late last year as part of their tax write-down strategy. Last week, they also cancelled a third project, Scooby-Doo! and the Mystery Pups3.

But so far as I can tell, no one officially connected to Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too!, either at Warner Bros. or production company Digital eMation, has said anything publicly about whether or not Krypto, Too! has actually been cancelled. That's what CBR and almost every other website reporting on this story has said, but not a single one of those reports provides a single source confirming the cancellation. I think that's weird. (For the record, I also think it's bad journalism, but we seem to be losing that fight on a daily basis.)

Frankly, I can think of a lot of reasons why the movie might have been leaked, especially in light of WB's recent instability. I'm not yet convinced that the movie won't one day be released through official channels. For example, the film has a 2023 copyright date in its credits, and there's still listing on Amazon UK for a September 25, 2023, PAL DVD release.

I'm holding out hope for a public release because, as Booster booster Koby first notified me, Skeets is in the movie! As I said above, I've seen enough to confirm that DC's Number 1 Robot Sidekick appears in the background inside the Hall of Justice Trophy Room, right beside a model of the Blue Beetle's Bug. It's a pretty cool Easter egg. Maybe one day, everyone can enjoy it.

UPDATE 2024: Rob Snow lets me know that the movie is now available on Max, so here's a legal screenshot:

Booster Gold Is More Than a Cereal Mascot

Over the weekend, I was being teased by some friends about whether or not I'd be able to keep a particular New Year's Resolution I made. In response, I decided that instead of resolutions, I was going to make objectives (which sounds more aspirational than intimidating resolutions).

One of my New Year's Objectives for 2023 is to introduce at least one new person to the awesomeness of Booster Gold. I don't know where I'll find someone in my life who isn't already familiar with DC's greatest superhero, but I'll definitely be looking. I invite all Booster boosters to join me.

2023 may present us with some pretty good opportunities. In addition to whatever else it is that James Gunn has brewing at Warner Bros, there's still a Jaime Reyes-centric Blue Beetle movie coming this August. That'll give us an opportunity to enlighten new fans about the established superhero who originally introduced Jaime to his own super-heroic alter ego in 2006's Infinite Crisis #5!

If Booster Gold is good enough for Batman, he's good enough for you!

Help our hero get the recognition he deserves in 2023, Booster boosters. The future may depend on it!

Where Can You Even Find a Phone Booth Anymore?

Blech. I don't know who the characters in this week's Human Target #6 are, but they're certainly no members of any Justice League International that I've ever met before! So let's forget all about them and instead give our attention to a creator who has a better handle on our favorite characters, someone who helped make them our favorite characters in the first place.

Artist Kevin Maguire tweeted this image last week in honor of the Justice League International's 35th anniversary. The drawing has made the rounds of the World Wide Web a time or two already, but it's just too Boosterrific for me not to repost here.

Now that the JLI 35th anniversary passed, I got to thinking what they might look like now and I think they MIGHT look something like this...#JLI #JusticeLeague -- @maguirekevin Twitter.com March 8, 2002

I especially love how good Booster Gold looks with white hair and wrinkles. Our hero is far to vain to let a little thing like time dull *his* looks. (It probably helps that his brush with Chronal Leprosy in the 25th century left him practically immortal. [See Booster Gold volume 2 #43 for details.])

Let's not wait so long before our next reunion, old pals.
