Circle of Life

Recent years have been pretty good to us, Booster boosters, but a growing lack of evidence indicates that we may very well be entering another drought of Booster Gold comics.

There have been many long stretches between new in-continuity appearances in Booster's nearly 4 decade career. The longest drought was the 574-day streak between 2015's Bat-Mite #4 and 2017's Booster Gold/The Flintstones Special. (And if you're the sort who considers that Flintstones crossover to be out of continuity, it would be another 239 days until Action Comics #992!) You might notice that gap correlates with DC's "Rebirth" period, during which DC was too busy course correcting from the New 52 debacle to devote much space to characters who don't appear regularly on kid's pajamas and party favors. I don't think it's a coincidence that the current fade-out is occurring simultaneously with another line-wide relaunch (this time correcting for Crisis on Infinite Earths?).

Anyway, the point here isn't to criticize DC's backwards-looking publishing strategy. (I mean, I am looking forward to the Fire & Ice miniseries, although that won't come out until September.) The point is to try and figure out how Boosterrific.com can weather the storm — or, more accurately, the lack of one.

What shall I post about in a Booster Gold news vacuum? New news mostly writes itself, but trying to generate content from whole cloth takes time and creativity I don't always have. I've been thinking about rerunning some old content on the theory that it might reach a new audience. (Does anyone ever read old blog posts?) I don't really want to cut back on the number of days I post, but is that the better solution if it keeps the quality of my posts higher? If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.

In the meantime, let's all hope that I'm misreading the signs, and we'll be getting plenty of new Booster Gold comics sooner rather than later.
